Couple questions for yall... For all you smokers in the SD, have you ever noticed when you have the window craked in less than perfect weather, water always seems to drip in and land directly on the power locks, mirror, and wndow switches. Is there any "shielding" to protect the electronic components from water damage? I have 135K smokin miles on the clock, and no troubles yet, is this luck? Lately i keep a terry towel in the door and set it over the switches in moist conditions, is this necessary?
Unfortunatly the problem would be easily solved with vent visors, but can't do that cuz the little lady thinks i quit a while ago.
Topic #2 goes out to everyone with a fuzz buster in their truck. I recently got a Escort Passport 8500 and hardwired her in, but i have it mounted 4 inches left of the "Super Duty" text in the windshield, same height down from roofline as the text. My thoughts is this is a great place to mount it becasue it can take a read over traffic. Is this too high? Is there an "optimal" fuzz busting location for the radar detectors in our trucks?
I'm not a smoker, but even with vent visors, I still get "the drip" from time to time. My switch panel on the door has lots of water spots (easily removed with a damp cloth). As far as the electronics being jeopardized, I would assume that it's not a problem after 135K miles...I think most of those connections are pretty tight anyway. Couldn't hurt to tear into the door panel and give a check and clean it up though.
And for the fuzz buster...I don't have one...cuz I don't "speed"...I just don't get caught...hahaha!!!
I don't think vent visors are directly related to smokers. I had them on my last truck and I don't smoke. Just tell her its to minimize dripping in the drive-thru or something. As for the switches I'm sure a little water won't hurt. Those connections always seem tight to me.
INteresting on the "fuzz-buster". I has assumed (I know, I know) that the SuperDuty Logo and the "little black dots" would interfere with the fuzz busting capabilities. Not True?? If so, I'll move mine up there. I've always had it there in previous vehicles, but just thought all that stuff up there would block the signals.

Hasnt stopped me.. I put mine up there so the cops can't see it.. Grand it, they aren't illegal here.. I just dont care for them to see it and make a comment :-P
I have the full wrap around EGR in channels on my SD and you have to have the window down about 5" for water to get inside. The visors stick down about 3".
The dripping problem would be solved if Ford would still put "Drip Rails" on their trucks. My 74' F-100 has a drip rail above each window. It channels the water from the roof away from the window. I also like the little wing windows on my 74'.
I don't smoke but when I take my old man somewhere he likes his cigars.
That is a pretty good location for the radar detector if you are just picking up radar. If you were tracked by laser, it is not a good location. Typically, when lasers are used, they are aimed at the grill between the headlights.

Yup, you're right. Not illegal here, but I just prefer mine up there...more out of the way. Speaking of the cops saying something, I got only my second speeding ticket last year (coming off the freeway into a construction zone) and they had a speed trap set up there. 3 or 4 Highway Patrol just zapping people left and right. The were doing the old "point and shoot". When he saw it, the cop asked me if my radar detector went off. I said yes, but there's not much can be done when you're aiming and shooting. Once the detector does the 'brrrrriiippppp, brrrrriiiiipppp, brrrrriiiippppp", it's over. He's gotcha!
I've noticed when I drive by airports my laser detection goes nuts, but like stated above, by the time the detector goes off they already got ya. My main concern is how high it is, in theory it should be good, but I am always afraid maybe i i calculated something wrong... Mine is not directly on the black dots, but if i put it behind them in SHOULD NOT affect how good the detector works?
Depends what Band is triggering.. Most shopping centers, airports, etc will set off the X-Band.. If your detector is smart it'll mute or ignore.. No law enforcement runs on X-band anymore.. Security Systems, little Tag Detectors in stores, etc generally set off the X-Band.. Like Wal-Mart, their little system that detects if your walking out with a electronic item you didnt pay for sets off my X-Band all the time..

True and not true depending on where you live. Agreed, automatic doors, motion sensors, and all that jazz sets off X-Band. I'm not sure about your area, but in MI police still WIDELY use X-band.
However, if a cop is shooting X-Band and you usually know it becasue I have never had doors set off the X band detector at full strength.
Lately I've noticed small town police forces hiding in grocery store parking lots shooting X-band targeting those who ignore it, and the small town cops still seem to love it.
Here is a list of counties in MI I know X-Band is in use (by a city or county cop i do not know) for those of you who may be affected:
Lapeer
Genessee
Shiawassee
Saginaw
Gratiot
Montcalm
Kent
Ottawa
Allegan
Ionia
Jackson
Arenac
Clinton
Eaton
Now this is places that I have seen the officer while getting hit with X-Band, typically on state roads such as M-21, M-57, M-66, M-52, and M-13. More often than not it is a CITY officer loacted within that county, but I have seen a few Genesee county brownies shootin it.
Just keep a heads up, if you have your audio alert tuned on (at least on the escort passport) you will know the difference between an auto door and an a cop.
