What is a good brand to use for an injector cleaner that you would run through the gasoline once a month for a 2003 F-150 with a 5.4? I just put that Lucas brand. Is that any good. Are there any better brands out there that will prevent the injectors cleaned and operating at the best performance?
the best thing you can do is fill up with a 10% blend of alcohol now and then. in Illinois that stuff is readily available. Milage with it will drop, but 10% is 2 gallons of cleaner per tank of gas. Use it ever other fill up, or once a month, etc and you will not have any problems with injectors, ever.
It will clean the intake valves, but doesn't touch the injectors that way.
Personally, Techron seems to clean the best. When there was a sulfer problem here and the build-up caused many fuel sending units to fail, the Techron would clean them and they would start working again. I use it every 3k miles when I chenge the oil.
My uncle swears by chevron with techron for injector cleaner. Personally what I do is run seafom in my gas and through my brake booster line here and there and that always kept it real clean. Also marvel mystery oil in the tank on every fill up (just a few ounces) works good as well, I actually got the best fuel economy out of my truck when I was using Marvel mystery oil on a regular basis.
Not to sound dumb but what is "seafoam". Is it a brand name?
It's just a white, metal can (w/ red letters) that you can find at any Wal*Mart or Auto parts store. That stuff does wonders.
Dumping a can of it into your gas tank before you fill up helps clean out the fuel lines, injectors and intake.
Sucking it through the vaccum line is the best...but it won't touch the injectors. It will smoke like a freight train too!
Oh, and if you put it in the tank, it will smoke a little bit on start-up. It's perfectly normal...just means it's working by eating up all the carbon build-up
Not to be a negative person, but does anyone have anything bad to say about seafoam? I have heard much about it but are there any negative things about it. Has anyone had bad luck with it?
I LOVE the stuff. I use it in all of my vehicles and lawn equipment. It works especially well in 2 strokes. I put in in my gas/oil mix at 4 oz per gallon. I have a weed eater that is nine years old that still has the origional spark plug in it, normal wear, but it still looks new with very little carbon. No, I have nothing bad to say about the product.

Sea foam FTW it will do amazing things. I personally saw it added to a 2 year old gas in a lawn mower and run like a champ. It will work as a fuel stablizer and not lower your octane like stabil. I use it in all vehicles thru the tank and booster line. I used it on my junk IAC valve on my mach1 and it cleaned all the crap out of it and now it works good. Just resist the temptation to step on the gas after you feed it thru the booster line. Smoke is awesome but you could suck up raw liquid and do damage. I Let my vehicles sit for 15 minutes after adding to intake and then idle for 10 minutes, then i drive it real easy untill it stops smoking.
