Currently i run a 4" turbo back straitpipe on my 2003 6.0 powerstroke. The ear-piercing whistle is awsome and it has taken me some time to decide to tone it down. I still would like to hear the turbo, just make it a little less annoying to all those ingnorant people who don't know what it is. Any suggestions for the best/least expensive way to quite the whistle would be greatly appreciated.

You are trying to quite down the whistle that a lot of people on this forum would like... I have been thinking about replacing my muffler with a pipe to get more whistle. I live in Nevada so I can't take off my Cat.

I use a straight muffler on a 4" system and I can still here the whistle on my 03. I ran the truck with a gutted cat and intermediate pipe only and I was expecting to get clearance for takeoff.

How loud is the whistle compared to just running a strait pipe? I run a 4" downpipe. I still have the cat but would rather not put it back on for egt reasons, but if that is the best way I may have to sacrifice.
T-back MBRP with no kitty and the stock MBRP muffler on the X. Whistle is very noticeable on acceleration but not present in the cab when crusing. The only time I hear the whistle when I'm crusing is in a tunnel or next to a jersey barrier or I have the window down. And I have had a lot of 6.0 and Dodge owners wanting to know how I get such a distinctive whistle.
I am a regular in the 7.3 section. This thread caught my eye. Mark at MKO Power sells a muffler that IMHO would fit your needs. I have been running it on my 7.3 with the 5" system and it is a good medium between too much noise and too little. It is not a striaght through design as is the MBRP. Its a good all round performer.
1) An aftermarket downpipe. The stock one is wrapped in insulation.
2) No cat.
3) An aftermarket muffler.
I'd like to see some input here, but my thinking is that the biggest culprit (in my configuration) is the absence of the cat, followed by the aftermarket downpipe and then last the aftermarket muffler. I don't even want to think what if would sound like if I ran no muffler !
I know I am a minority here but the wrapped down pipe ( stock) is nice for me cause in cab whistle is down to a minimum, I do know the aftmrkt dp is the best way to go in general but my setup works for me. In nicer weather I may go for it, but right now I am up 2 mpg and can't complain at all. how many mpgs will the aftrmrkt downpipe add......probably not a sig diff on my stock rig but that is my opinion.
