Yeah, I agree that the downpipe by itself is not a significant power/mpg difference. They generally get changed out if you're doing the entire exhaust.

I was worried about the in-cab whistle noise at first, but it's really only noticeable as it spools up. Once you reach your target MPH, such as cruising down the road, the boost drops off and the whistle drops significantly.

TX is right on that point 100% Its only loud when you spool it up and get it pushing air.

I agree tx is right on, but that is the problem. Nothing beats the sound of the engine and turbo when she's opened up. The times I am trying to quite down are creeping through parking lots and going 30 through neiborhoods when the turbo is just about spooled up.

If I am correct in my thinking, putting the cat back on will quite it down the most but putting a mbrp muffler will give it a smooth tolerable pitch.

either that or put the factory dp back on. The factory dp in our 03 and sometimes 04s had a small resonator that was ment strictly for the turbo wistle built into the pipe. It will silence the turbo alot but you can still hear it alittle.

My Banks downpipe has a small resonator on it, but I don't think it does much. Considering how much trouble it was to get the stock dp off and 3x the trouble to get the new dp in, I don't think I'd do it again. I may be way off, but I'd guess the aftermarket dp doesn't do much for you in the grand scheme of things.

Just my .02

The stock downpipe on a '03 and early '04 has a resonator in it to tone down the turbo. Banks makes one with a resontor to fix the whine.

Yeah, like I mentioned, my Banks downpipe has the resonator on it, but I don't think it does much at all.

you could always trade your 03 turbo for my 04 It whistles pretty loud, but not as loud as the 03's. I want an 03 turbo just for that reason.
