For Those who are Waiting on Parts for your Cruise Control Recall

Got some info for those of you who are waiting for your dealer to get the parts for your cruise control recall. The recall installation is simply a fusible link installed on the wiring harness that goes to the brake master cylinder - that's the deactivation circuit on the cruise. The recall says to "inspect and/or install" on all recalled vehicles. What I found was, some vehicles come up listed under the recall even though they don't actually need it. Mine was one of those that didn't need it. An easy way for anybody to tell is to look at the plug that goes into the end of the master cylinder - no need to even unplug it - and see what color the plastic is on the little module that the plug goes onto to. Black or gray means your truck is affected and needs the fuse link. Red means the vehicle isn't affected and the recall fuse link won't even plug in because the plugs don't match.

Turns out that the long wait for parts was due to incorrect assembly of the original recall fuse links. These were built in Mexico and something (the fuse?) was assembled "backwards". Not sure what this means, but that's what my brother told me - he's a lube tech at the local Ford dealer. I don't know if the installed fuse links are going to be recalled or not. Now they are being assembled at a large dealer here in the states, and are becoming available again.
Hope this helps!

Doesn't affect my diesel, but that's good information. I'll bump it back to the top so others have a chance to read it.

I don't have a recall on my truck but I do on my '95 Crown Vic. The new harness was supposed to be out in the last quarter of 2007, still no word on it yet. I asked the service manager(just to bust his stones, he's really a good guy) if Ford's way of fixing the problem was to just unplug the cruise and forget about it......
