Anybody bought any of LMCs bumpers? They offer a premium...what's the difference? Also, how well do they fair. A buddy of mine around here got an aftermarket bumper from a ma and pa shop and it is almost completely surfaced rusted after a year. I definitely don't want that.......Any good experiences with replacement bumpers from different suppliers in the snow/salt belt....???? Thanks in advance.
Up here even the factory painted bumpers don't last, but you can find near perfect chrome bumbers on completely rusted junkyard dogs.. I got one off a smashed explorer for our ranger last year. That's a bit off topic but the point is, if you get a painted bumber take it somewhere and have it sand blasted and powdercoated at very least.
Aftermarket bumpers - especially chrome ones - are not as heavily plated as OEM. About the only thing worse than aftermarket is anything GM built after 1971! ;-)
Painted aftermarket bumpers are OK, but you'll find yourself repainting every so often if you want to keep it nice looking. I've got the factory step bumper on my '87, but I have repainted it (black vs. original silver) to keep it in good shape.
Now, if I could just keep the body from turning into steel swiss cheese, I'd be in good shape!!
