compression check

I did a compression check yesterday on my 1997 3.0 180000 miles and found 165-180 psi on all 6 good?? I am trying to determine if this thing is worth working on anymore. Thnx for all input in advance

what cylinders have 165? what 180....?

Difference is not so good. Was your engine warmed up well? Usually compression difference is not more then 5%, you have 10%.

Does your engine burn oil? What is your fuel milage?

Those numbers sound fine. Ford recommendeds that the lowest compression reading be within 75 percent of the highest reading. So if 180 psi is your high, then 165 psi is easily within limits (the minimum would be 135 psi.)

When you did the compression test did you make sure the throttle plate was wedged wide open?

I suggest, engine is good, does not burn oil, but I know 1 thing, when starter and ring gear are not new, compression test is not accurate.

I agree w/ Rockledge - those are perfectly fine compression numbers.

engine was warm although it was beginning to cool off by the time I was done with cylinder 3. I went in this order 456123 .engine does not burn any oil but has a small leak, last time I figures gas mileage was running around 12 mpg but I am still trying to figure out my p0402 code. as to the throttle plate wide open I just had my wife hold the pedal to the floor while she cranked the engine

Exhaust Gas Recirculation Flow (EGR) Excessive Detected. Not sure about gasoline engines, but if this fault exists electronic diesel controll limits power.
