Reason: forgot something
A backfire can be many things. Running too lean, timing off, Accelerator pump not set right. Just to name a few. What make is your carb? A 750 CFM should be plenty. Yes the vacuum hole needs to be plugged.
Holley has a site that might help you find your carb. The other sites at Holley will give you more info. There is another site that tells you where your numbers are if you don't have the original tag off the carb. Hope this might help.
My numbers were on the outside of the carb next to the auto choke stamped into the upper part of the carb.
Why would a small carb cause a backfire problem any more than a too big of a carb or the right carb? A 750 on a 10 to 1 motor such as yours is about right (as long as it's not a double pumper) but either the accelerator pump is a problem, power valve or a timing issue. Usually if the motor back fires once, for any reason, and there is no power valve protection, you now have a blown power valve to add to the problem.
ok well then i will rule out the carb being to small but it does pop but i can't tell its its out the carb or not i have a a/f meter by the way bear and its running stoich now it always has, i did have to change the accel pump cam cuz it would bog when i would floor it but now it does good, so i think its the timming but it does'nt do it every single time, and i don't know how to time a motor well i do kinda but i have never done it.
