Ordering F-450 / When does VIN get generated?

Ordering F-450 / When does VIN get generated?
I am about to place my order for a new F-450; the dealer is saying delivery will be around 8 weeks. Does anyone know when the VIN gets generated? Is it at the time of order, or at production time?
I am trying to get an X-Plan pin number.

VIN only gets generated after the order is received at the factory and the factory actually puts the truck on a build schedule... Basically probably not till about 2 to 3 weeks prior to delivery....

Actually, the factory will probably assign the Vin about 2 weeks prior to build week... so depending on shipping and all you should have the number about a month before it gets to your dealer. Now when they schedule it depends on how busy they are and if they are backed up. I am a fleet manager for my job and I ordered a unit on 12/18, it got a vin assigned on 2/12 and is being built the week of 2/25... This is a little long but you have to take into account that production was shut down for a bit around Christmas holiday. Congrats and Good luck with your new truck....
