HI I recently bought a 95 f150 with 302 efi and have been having some weird problems with it. It seams to be short on power and every now and then when its in gear but at a stop {say at a red light} the engine will start to spuder and run rough almost die. But as soon as I put it in neutrel it will smarten up, and run good. the check engine light will only occasualy come on but goes out. I am a carburator fan, cuz Ive never had a problem figuring out or fixing one on an old classic. any buddy ever experienced this on their 95 or so. Plese give me a heads up.
Carefull now.. what you're really saying if you choose to ignore that flashing check engine light and bash things with a hammer, is that your IQ is down there with earthworms, and I seriously doubt that's the case.
This couldn't be easier, Go to http://www.fordfuelinjection.com/?p=13 to see how to pull the codes without a scanner, and then come back and post them, the good folks here will help you figure out what's wrong.
I am way ahead of you the codes didnt come up. And I never said any thing about smashing and hamers whare did you come up with that b.s. You know the one that brings it up, is normaly the one that dun it.
I Have A 92 F 150 4x4 Xlt 302 Efi Dual Tanks.. Very Simular Issue That Cost Me A Weeks Work And Parts Ot The Ying Yang.. Pulled Codes 31 Egr Sensor, Code 87 Primary Fuel Circuit Failure.. Chased My Tail Here.. Replaced The Egr Unit, The Fuel Regulator, Filter, The Coil, And The Electronic Ignition Control.. Still Ran Crazy,, Cold Was Fine Then Run Like Hell After 5 Minutes .. I Took The Spout Conector Plug Located On Drivers Side Inner Fender,, Grey Plug In Wire For Tune Ups.. I Just Did Timing And All.. Well I Took It Out Adjusted Timing A Hair , Tightened Down Then Put Connector Back In.. Runs Like A Real Tiger Now.. No More B.s. Man.. What A Pain.. Just Goes To Show.. Simple B.s. Can Really Get Ya.. Try Readjusting The Timing With The Connector Out Then Replace It After You Shut Down And Tighten Your Distributor Bolt,, Then Restart Again.. Might Help ... Just A Suggestion.. I Was Chasing My But And Beating My Head For A Week And So Simple A Problem.. The Parts Replaced Needed Replaced Anyway.. Like I Said.. It May Or May Not Help.. My Truck Was Doing Same Thing.. Red Light Or After Key Off After Cold Start And It Was Like The Worst Miss In The World.. My God..
And I never said any thing about smashing and hamers whare did you come up with that b.s. You know the one that brings it up, is normaly the one that dun it.
You got me there.
You just got this thing so give it a once over and tuneup. A lot of the problems these truck suffer from are simple vacuum or gasket leaks, and they are a bitch to find. Start with the basics and determne if you have good spark and fuel pressure. Check or change the fuel and air filters and clean the idle bypass valve, these are famous for causing idle problems. There are a lot of thing it could be, the only way to find out is to eliminate them 1 at a time.
Yup bought anuther truck same year same problem but worse, but you were right S.P.O.U.T plug and timming turned out to be causing it what a head ache and pain in the wallet like 700 dollars sensers, scans, aghh lol
Actually, a good scanner, Digital or analog multi-meter, fordfuelinjection.com, a regular timing light and patiences will save you a ton of money with EFI. Granted it isnt as straight forward as a carb it has advantages that a carb just cant readily deal with, with out someone constantly adjusting the mixing screws, jets, and choke settings all the while the engine is running.
A wise man one said "you can lead a horse to water but you can't make him drink". Could have saved you most of that $700 if you had simply followed the advise I gave you in my first post.....
EFI or otherwise known as "FOOLINJECTION" inject fool into drivers seat and tell him its more reliable.. the only fuel injection i would trust is the mechanical injection on older diesels..
Considering I'm driving a carbureted vehicle right now, I'll take an EFI vehicle any day. Far less fussing to get to x00,000 miles. And, they are getting better and better at self-diagnosis, with more HP, better mileage, and far, far fewer emissions. EFI wins hands down.
