search for 'electric fan' there was a pretty long thread about this not too long ago, and I think TJ took fan off for the winter and was planning on adding electric fans pretty soon, so he should have some good info on this. I am planning on doing this when I replace my water pump but I don't have any info stored up for it yet

I am running dual 16" fans that seem to work really nice. I think it is one of my best mods. Take a look they are in my albume. No more loud fan or un-needed power lose to it. Let me know if you have any more question. BTW if you find some on eBay it is really cheap to do.

I'm looking at doing this. Are you using a relay kit and if soo what one?

I have fans from some Volvos becuase i work for a Volvo dealership and there was a recall on the control units on them and you had to replace the whole fan. The problem is they pull a lot of amps. I put one on me 93 f150 and if cooked my 30amp relay kit. they move a lot of air though.

Thanks
John

I am using a controler. I use the Flex-a-lite controler. It works great and came with everything I needed to hook them up. I can even turn them on or off manually, or set the temp for them to come on automatically. Take a look at their web-site. The controler is a little pricey at about a hundred bucks but well worth it, and it gets the job done right.

This topic has been discussed many times recently. A lot of people get turned away by the electrice fans because they cannot perform as well as the stocker. Plus, they do put a load on the electrical system.

If you don't pull any heavy loads the electric fan setup would probably be a great idea. I've researched it many times in the past. Unfortunatly, I do pull some heavy loads.

Opinion

I'm going to say I dont agree with that one. You can study all the posts and study the numbers from the factory on cooling capabilities, and as long as your fans move the required amount of air you will have no problem. I have never had a heat issue, and most of the time sinse I dont tow much my fans dont come on for weeks at a time. These fans can move a lot of air. I trust them completely, and I never turned back after I put them on, but it was a good suggestion to take a lot at the previous posts, and study up on it so you too can have the confidence in doing it.

eBay . They are 16" Perma-cool fans that move a lot of air. I got one for $20 and the other for $25. Some three thousand cfm each for a total of of six thousand cfm. I think our trucks call for 5500 cfm, so the six thousand should cover things pretty well.

Nice set-up.
Are them fans put on the engine side as suckers or on the grille side as pushers?

I think that I lose a lot of mileage from that fan howling up there. And had gotten a replacement from a package deal on e-bay and no difference. I think it should almost free-wheel when it's cold out with a non-hot motor.

That's exactly right. The radiator doesn't care what's moving the air, as long as it gets enough.

That is also exactly why you don't want to run electric fans on a truck that works hard. They can't move ANYWHERE near as much air as an engine driven fan.

There is a reason the factory spends the money to run an engine driven fan. It is the only way to move enough air to cool the engine and transmission in a fully loaded truck, on a grade, on a hot day. Electric fans can't do it.

i'll throw this out there too... speaking from offroad experience i put my rig through many situations where the outside temp is in the 90's and we as a group dont move very fast. in fact it seems we stay in one spot trying to get over an obstacle for an hour or more at times. i run a Ford Taurus fan on my bronco and with it on high it NEVER gets warm. in fact i have to turn it to low even on the hottest of days.

the reason i say this is b/c you can go to j-yards everywhere and buy taurus fans for $10-$20 or so as opposed to the $200+ you pay at summit or other performance shop.

i like elec fans b/c they move just as much air stopped as when they are moving.
