what is the obviose difference in the chassis of a 47 1/2 ton ford vrs. a 48 1/2 ton ford. ? cab mounts , crossmembres,exc.. ? I have a 48-57 rear end . looks original insallation . 46 cab and mounts are correct possition . problem is all sites I see to replace spring shackle stuff show 48 and look the same as pre 47 ?frame width ? the only #s I can find are gy396616.and are not real clear so could be anything and dont come close to any info I have.whats the major obviose differance.. puzzeld.thanx the org.
The frame you have there is a '47 1 ton 6 cylinder frame. There SHOULD (keyword should) be a 71 before the number on the frame. This is using the VIN you posted.
thanx. the #s are barely legible.lokated on top rail left side. before steering gear.all indications would say 1/2 tone ?the front sheet metel uses the forward mounts on the foremost front x member, there are two mounts /to which the rad/fender assmbly come together on this x membernow im realy puzzeled ? I cant be 100% on the numberes, as they happen to be rite in the die / jig burr area. not to mention 60 years of ?
If I'm understanding you correctly, there are two mounts on the front crossmenber radiator mount and inner fenders. The farthest to the front is for a 6 cyl engine because the 6 is longer and the other two holes back are for the V8. Also the springs for the 48 should be the same as on the 46-47.
yep thats correct .other than the sheet metal /fenders/ only have one bolt patern forsay as the reinforcment plate on the inner fenders looks as thought it could be ground off and fliped to use the rearmost rad possition.learning lots . so yeh probably a six originally.it does have a post 47 rear non banjo type diff.and a heafty stack of springs. still all 5 lug wheels modern wheels fit . ok so the deffining detail 47/48 would be body mounts ? I have not had the chance to check out a 48 1/2. thanx dave
