Hey guys,
Sent all my fluids off to Blackstone for my yearly checkup. Engine and tranny look good, but my "insolubles" are getting up there in the tranny so I'm going to change it anyway (15k on the fluid, rather be safe with my towing).
However they noted some elevated levels with my diff fluid. Going to change it tomorrow. Not sure what's up, they said to pull a sample in 6 mo and see if it's still a problem. Any comments on the results?
Last time I changed, I didn't pull the cover, just sucked out the old and replaced with new. Also, I've been having a "shuddering" problem going around turns, I think it's the LSD grab-n-go problem. This time I'm going to take the cover off and inspect, replace with synth again and use the Ford friction modifier (used Trans-X last time).
Haven't really heard about diff problems on the forum so this has me curious...
I don't know enough about the Blackstone results to comment, but when you changed your fluid the last time, how much friction modifier did you use? The way I do it is to add half of the 4 oz and test drive. If it shudders, add the rest. If you added the whole 4 oz and it shuddered, it was either the wrong kind (and I don't know if there is a "wrong" kind), or just not enough. Never had the problem.

I think that's part of my problem. I used the whole TransX bottle which I'm sure was more than 4oz, maybe 12oz. Should have read up here first. Hopefully doing it right tomorrow will get it better. I just read guzzle's write up so that's how I'm going to do it (add a little first, then try it).
The Ford stuff comes in a 4 oz bottle, which is what I used the last time I did it (on my 'stang). I think I used the whole thing, but I don't recall. I know it had a lot less fluid in it, so maybe this one does take two bottles. I'll look at it when I do mine. I haven't changed it yet on my truck, but it will be getting done shortly. Guzzle did a write up on the diffs -- you might have a look at his page: http://guzzle.rbmicro.com/
