After reading of positive effects of doing the fpr shim I am game to try it on my rig. I will be installing the 203 degree thermostat with coolant change in 2 weeks. Would like to do the fpr shim at the same time. Any good tips on 'how to's'. My ride is a 96 350 CC dually, 215K, 5 speed, 3"DP w/race pipe, HPX and KN filter (I know not the hot set up). Purchsed new and has given me nothing but good times. Any advice will be greatly appreciated from the gurus of 7.3L PSD's. Thanks. Skip
BEFORE YOU START check the pressure at the valve using a dial gauge. Should be no higher than 75 after shim.
This is how i did the FPR shim,
1) remove bolt with a 19mm wrench
2) using small needle nosed pliers, carefully pull the spring out
3) put a small dab of grease on the end of the spring
4) place the BB in the grease carefully so it holds in place
5) Carefully, place the spring BB first back into the regulator, may want to have a buddy watch from the passenger side fender to make sure that it goes in ok and the BB doesn't fall off. It's hard to see while your putting the spring back in.
6) put the bolt back on the end and tighten, but don't go crazy, just snug it up.
I'm sure someone will give me a hard time for using grease, or not taking the whole thing apart, but this way took literally 2 min to do... so worked for me

I'm sure you meant for the buddy to watch from the "Drivers" side fender, that way he could see what the grease spring was doing.
Just puttin' it out there. Cali truck....no shim. Pressure's higher, stock...throws a CEL. It had a lil kick for a couple days...but I depend on my ride for food. I never did get a pressure check. My schraeder (sp?) leaked too much when I removed the cap. Is that expected?
Thanks for the hello. I'm a bit jealous of your new 6.4. Your absolutely right in your observation that dodge trucks fall apart around around the motor while driving. The fit and finish on Fords has always been superior. Let me know how the 6.4 works out after you've put on some miles.
