Hi,
I have an 89 F 150. on the tailgate there is a logo with about 3 inch letters, F O R D, these are plastic, that originally had a chrome type finish. A new set of these letters are around $100. I don't really want to pay that, does anyone know if there is a paint I can use to recondition these letters myself? Thanks!
you can go to wal-mart or any automotive store and pick up chrome in a can(it's not labled that but that's what it is). It's chrome in a spray can. From what my friends have said though, it'll go dull and then eventualy wear off before the month is over.
Painted a toolbox about 10 years ago with an old can of porcelain (appliance) paint. Still looks like new except for a couple of scratches and dents. Don't know if it's offered in colors or not.
I would just replace them. That chrome paint never turns out looking right. It might still look alright though. I might consider painting them with one of the polished aluminum type paints and it might look the same as the rest of the panel. That could look cool. How bad does it look now? It would probably turn out better if you tried to paint them the same dark gray charcoal argent color that the inside of the grille is. Maybe even paint it the same color as your truck. Depending on the color of the truck that might look good.
Thanks Gentlmen,
The way it is,is that you have the tailgate the color of the truck(white),then you have a strip of aluminum with a red plastic strip on top of that and then the big F O R D letters set in the red plastic. The aluminum and red plastic peice go all the way across the tailgate horizonally. I think I will try the epoxy chrome. Even if it's not as shiney it will look better than brown! Thanks again!
