So I have this 89 f150. I have an older 302 in it. Had an after market dist. (points & coil) I needed to do some timing on it and after loosening the lock the dist wouldnt turn. So tapped it with the handle of a screwdriver, nothing. Got a bigger tool, hammer, nothing. Decided to pull the dist. Of course it wouldnt budge. Put a screwdriver blade between the bolck and the housing came up about 1/4 inch. Long story short, I broke the housing and got out everything except the shaft, and it aint moving. The shaft turns when I rotate the motor and the camshaft gears are meshed. I dropped the pan and the oil pump is out. Anyone run into something like this??
Are you meaning the main shaft inside the dizzy or dizzy to oil pump shaft?
Have had many dizzys stick, usually just give it a couple good whacks and twisting and they pop out. If I remember correctly the dizzy to pump shaft has a clip washer thingie on it that prevents it from comming up and out.
It's the shaft that turns the rotor. I suspect that the shaft of the after market dist. may have been out of spec and jammed the clip on the bottom. I think I'll try tapping from the bottom and see if that will bring it out. As soon as iget the oil pan out of the way. That should occupy most of the day. Thanks.
So I finally got the shaft out and it was galled on the end. So my question is, it shouldn't have galled if there was enough oil going to it right? Does it just drip oil or are there oiling groves? Can I just run a drill bit down the shaft hole to clear whatever junk is left in there? I just LOVE this stuff...
I would get a ball hone, not a 2 or 3 stone hone but a ball hone...and hone it out a little and then mic it... they are hard to find...I buy mine at McMasters...got all kinds of them, use them all the time for cleaning bores..
