Radiator I.D.

Is there somewher to look at different radiators pics. I have a radiator that I really don't know what it is for. Maybe a 46 F1 but I need to identify it for sure.
Thanks Richard

NO F1's until 48. All that aside, I have a 46 truck radiator in the shop and it is the same radiator as the one in my 48 F1, my 52 F2 and my 48 F6.

Can you put up a picture of it?

Or check this link for detailed info on most everything flathead related......

I bought a radiator last spring at an auction that was marked "46 Ford truck" for $5. It looked just like my the ones in my '48-52s. I assume it came out of a larger truck because it was a three core radiator. I got it home and stuck it in my "junk", as my wife calls it. Last fast as I was chasing the overheating problems in my panel I found the radiator plugged so I thought I would just swap in the "new" radiator. I found they had different top tanks, the '46 had larger top hose tubes, the bottoms were the same though. I had to swap tanks, first time I did that and it didn't leak. I also found out later that day the the '46 didn't have a drain **** so now I going to have to drain the radiator and install that too. It got too cold last year before I had time to do that.

Post pictures of your radiator if you can.

I will try to get a pic or two on here later.

It is definitely different than the one in my 52 F3.
The lower inlets are much farther apart. And the upper ones are larger diameter.
It may be out of a larger truck. It seems pretty big. I'll do some measuring and take a couple of pictures.
Thanks for the responses.

Other than the larger tubes the '46 radiator had the same dimensions as the stock one in the '48 panel.

Trying a couple pics. Also included a pic of the 52 F3.

The core of the rad.measures 21" x 20 1/2 X 3" with 3 rows of tubes.
The fill neck is also larger than the one on my F3.

That has to be for an early flattie, I've never seen one with the crank hole going through the center like that.

Post your question over at the Ford Barn, http://www.fordbarn.com/earlyv8/forum03/ev8forum.htm, someone there will give you an answer. You can also try the '47 and older board on this site. If it's got three cores I would bet it's for a big truck.

Not quite sure what you have there......48-50 had that large cap and the measurements seem about right (from memory), but that protected hole in the middle for the crank has me puzzled. The 48-52 have a slight hump in the bottom tank for the crank to reach past. Whatever this engine was, the crank was mounted fairly high. The inlet and outlet hoses appear to be the same.... probably 1 3/4"....

Are there any numbers anywhere on the rad? Even a prefix would help - like 99T??

Bob it right on about the differences between 46 and 48. I have no clue why they went to a smaller inlet for the late series......... They're also a pain to drain coolant from without a drain ****. I did it outside with a large pa, and just popped a lower hose off and let it run out.

That's how I did it but I'm installing the drain **** when it gets warmer.

I'll look for some #'s on it tomorrow. I had planned to when I took pics but forgot to.
It has a drain **** on the front a little off center and angled down.
It was with of a group of parts that were mostly 46 pickup parts I think but thuis could be any year I'm sure.
Thanks Richard

Tag no.

There is a small tag on the top tank with 11A underlined with an L under it.
That is all the markings I can find.
