Greyhound?

I know this is off topic, but I was wondering if any of you have used greyhound freight shipping before? Seems a lot cheaper than UPS...Is it good, bad, same? What was your experience/recommendations

thanks

I've used Greyhound to ship some large pieces. However, you need to enclose them in cardboard and you have to deliver to a Greyhound station and they only go to another Greyhound station so it somewhat limits where you can ship to.

I've used greyhound for both shipping and recieving. It is cheaper but as written above there are some drawbacks.

and if you care about the schedule, pay the higher registered shipping fee.
The base fee is space available, UP TO A WEEK.. and the have NO way to track. you have to call the stations yourself..

I sent a car seat that made it two stops away and sat for the rest of the week..

Got my eye on a set of 56 Doors that are for sell in CA. Does anyone know if you can insure parts shipped via Greyhound.

dont remember about shipping insurance, but i would think you could get it. as mentioned above it may work for you if you have a station that is not to far away from you, I have to drive about 18 miles to the station to ship.
I have shipped fenders, running boards, and even a bedside with Greyhound, didn't have any problems that I was aware of.
josh

PS I think the bedside was about 3-4 inches shorter than the max length they can ship or accept? that and it may take a lot longer to get there.

We ship huge RC Airplanes all around the country with Greyhound. I've never heard of any trouble with any of them (big crates!!).

A guy i bought fenders from sent them by way of grayhound. I picked them up in Hartford when they called. I had no problems or damage that i saw. It did take 10 days from Denver, CO. Good luck!

It's a lot cheaper than UPS or FedX. I shipped two doors via FedX once by going to their web site and arranging the shipment. They gave me a price of something like $50 apiece, cheaper than what Greyhound wanted and I didn't have to go to the depot, FedX picked it up at my door. I got my bill for the month and there was an addition $50 "oversize" charge for each door. I called FedX and told them there was no place on the web site that mentioned an oversize charge. The service rep said I should have read the manual because there's a section in it telling of the oversize fee. I told her UPS has the feature right on their web site and because the price that UPS quoted on their web site was a lot more than FedX I went with FedX. The rep finally relented and said she would wave the oversize fee because this was my first time using my new business account with them. I informed her it was also my last time.

BTW, if you buy or sell anything on the Bay don't tell FedX, they will not ship anything bought or sold on eBay. They don't want to deal with insurance fraud by people who send broken items and then claim they were broke in transit. It took me three tries before I found out to keep the eBay information out of the conversation.

tacson--I am interested in the same doors--but no glass. I asked him if he had any that had all the glass and he is checking. Looks like a nice set of doors. I will bow out so no problem--I was leary of greyhound anyway. They are probably ok.....Bill

Walford 56.

Cash in hand gets the worm. Dont bow out. I am going to see what I see in the morning at the Nationals. If no luck I will check and see if these are still available. But go for them man. Getting glass shouldnt be that hard. A lot of glass companies I have ever dealt can cut flat glass sometimes with a pattern as long as they have the regulator.

I have shipped a lot of hoods, doors, fenders, quarter panels, etc., with Greyhound Freight. I pad the sharp edges with newspaper, wrap in black poly, put a label on it with the person's address and phone number and off it goes. You can buy insurance too if you like. I have shipped a lot of stuff and have had only 1 complaint. It is the least expensive way I have found for large items. I have never had to enclose these large items in cardboard, just make sure they are wrapped and taped up well.

I got some doors from a guy in Oregon with Greyhound a few years back and didn't have any problems. Since then Greyhound has quit going through my area and the place they dropped the doors off at is demolished so I guess I was lucky to get it done then.
