anybody know what's involved in swapping a 85 f350 4 speed with pto for the zf 5speed. i already have the hydro clutch on mine and have swapped in a 7.3 from a 90 model the trans is coming from a 92 f350 7.3. will it bolt up to my 7.3 without any changes?
There should be no problem swapping in the ZF. Even the six speeds will work, with the exception of the speedometer. In newer trucks, the signal for speedometer is run off the rear axle.
isn't the speedo port on the transfer case though? Or is that only on the borg warner transfer cases? Would those bolt up to a zf6? If it does, wouldn't it not matter that there no speedo port on the zf6?
correction. found a rubber plug and threaded hole under the grease on the tailshaft where you should be able to install the speedo gear . looks like i'm in business. i believe the clutch is going to be different because the input shaft looks bigger but i want know till i pull it. i still need the shifter but that's small stuff. thanks again.
