Epa

Why doesnt the EPA go after the construction equipment industry instead of messing around with us???

I drive by a fairly new looking trac-hoe this am and that thing was belching black smoke everytime the operator hit the throttle.

Leave me and my 15 minute commute to and from work alone and go after the construction equipment which use way more fuel, produce tons more tox, and operate enywhere from 8 to 24 (like a coal mine) hours a day

The EPA will be going after those types of nonroad equipment. Here is a direct quote from: http://www.epa.gov/otaq/regs/fuels/diesel/420f06033.htm

"In January 2001 and in June 2004, EPA finalized the Highway Diesel and Nonroad Diesel Rules, respectively, which will implement more stringent standards for new diesel engines and fuels. The rules mandate the use of lower sulfur fuels in diesel engines beginning in 2006 for highway diesel fuel, and 2007 for nonroad diesel fuel. These fuels will enable the use of aftertreatment technologies for new diesel engines, which can reduce harmful emissions by 90 percent or more. Aftertreatment technologies will start phasing into the diesel sector beginning in 2007 for highway and 2011 for nonroad."

Mining is a huge sector where I live and there will be a direct impact in 2011 with all off road diesel engines having to use ULSD. Another thing to think about is home boiler systems that burn diesel to make hot water (like myself) will have to use the more expensive fuel to heat my house. I don't know if the BTU's per gallon of LSD is the same as the BTU's for ULSD. If they aren't I'd be burning more to heat my house; just like my stinking truck to make the "world a better place".

Gotta love it, just another twist on NIMBY. As long as they screw with someone else who cares! Stupid!

The EPA is going after everyone. My 05 crf450x dirt bike had smog equiptment on it from the factory go figure. Chainsaws have a type of catylitic converter on the muffler also. The EPA is going after all the little fish that can't fight back first.

its ok. once they cripple our economy so badly we cant afford to buy anything new maybe they will stop with their non sense. they are moving way to fast for current technology. we should have the same regulations like we did 5 years ago. maybe every 15 years make changes, but every year stricter and stricter is insane and the way i figure it. once they make enough people mad and out of a job because they cant keep up with regulations and people stand up and tell them how its going to be then this country would be a better place.

Equipment has already been hit. It is just 1 step behind and catching up quickly. Off road has to be tier 3 compliant and it is getting more strict all the time. I wish they would go away period, I would not wish them on anyone. I will say though that in equipment fuel consumption is getting better not worse.

Because it's not about pollution. It's about political power and control.

Anyone with any sense at all has figured out that human caused global warming is a crock of <ahem>bs. Has that stopped the politicians from using it as a campaign talking point?

Just an example.</ahem>
