'01 4.2 6cyl Code "1401"

I been looking through the forums and see a lot of P401 Code issues and was wondering if its the same as mine (P1401). At first there was no power to the OBDII connector to read any codes, a mechanic told me that the harness was the most likely cause and recommended replacing the wiring harness. I found the solution thru your forum and the problem fixed with a .50 cent fuse. Now that I have power to the connector and ses light on I had it checked which produced a code P1401. after reseting and driving for about an hour it generated same code again. Engine has a miss at highway speeds, seemed like a plug wire was breaking down. Installed new plugs and wires with no change in performance. Looking for a recommendation into which direction to go now. If its hit and miss at this point I feel I could get the same results without paying someone else to guess. Thanks in advance for any help given.
2001 4.2 V6 91,000 mi. KN filter, regular oil changes, new plugs and wires. Didnt use platinum plugs. Standard motorcraft plugs. Code read "P1401 Manufacturers Control Auxilary Emission Controls".

I just got the same code on a 1997 Expedition 4.6L. It said "Manufacturer Specific Powertrain Trouble Code" which seems a little vague compared to how specific other codes have been. It has over 130,000 miles and the last time I had a trouble code it was an EGR code. Dealer also told me it had a weak DPFE signal so I replace that sensor. I'm going to pull the EGR and clean out the ports next to see if that helps. It has a rough idle at times (plugs changed a few months ago with no change) and it will stall once in awhile while idling. Don't know if that helps, but it sounds like a similar issue to yours.
