my 69 has no floorpans left and the cab mounts are almost totally gone, im in the process of stripping it down now, i need to know the order that i should do these, do I install the cab mount with new bushings and hardware onto the frame and then lower the cab until the body lines are level with the bed, and then weld the mount to the cab at that level? (theres not a whole lot to weld to), and then do the floor pans? -or- should i install the floor pans first and then mount the nount to the frame and lower cab, or should i do my best to weld the mount at the original location and hope I get it right? any advice would be appreciated
I'd put the floors in first, as that is what the cab mounts will go to. Usually the cab mounts will then rest on the cab seam(half way up firewall), so that will be your stop to set height. You can move mounts around if need be to get height correct.
Measure locations of mount holes in frame, then measure and X out(to square) the mounts you are going to weld on. Can't recall if the mounts heights are the same between front/back? Have to check frame to see if one is higher.
Best bet is to level frame so you have something to go off. Then you can move cab around to level it. I suppose you aren't taking cab off frame?
Ill be lifting the cab off the frame just enough to work, Im leaving the frame underneath
so the order I need to do this is: First (after dog house is removed) cut out and weld in floor pans. Second remove cab mounts (rubber, not cab to frame mount) disconnect steering column and all linkage, weld in cross braces between jambs for cab support, lift cab off. Third (my main question) drill the few remaining spot welds from cab to frame mounts, and measure their placement and then weld them to the firewall and floor pans? (or should i just install the 'cab to frame mounts' onto the frame, and then lower the cab back down, make sure its level and weld mounts to the firewall and floor pans then?)
