I didn't like the way my flaps hung, kind of following the curve of the tire. So I built some new ones. Essentially the top half is .045" diamond plate aluminum cut to fit and mount like my duraflaps. The bottom half is genuine duraflap material. I did make them 14" wide vs. the 12" I had. The new ones hang straight down, and have better coverage due to the size. There are a couple more pics in my gallery.
62rag, thats a good idea, looks great. I also have the duraflap for my Super Duty how high should they be? I think mine are sitting to low.
Thanks ~Gage~
How high are they supposed to be? I'm not sure. I did read on here somewhere that some states require 8" from the street. These are close at 7.5". Cost: the cost of the duraflaps of course, Dennis will cut them short as you want for no extra charge. The aluminum cost me $50 cut and shipped from a guy here in Colorado(name and website on request). I used all the mounting hardware from the old flaps, and bought some new stainless hardware to fasten the two parts together, about $30.00. And some silicone to seal the grooved portion of the bottom, to the aluminum so there are no leaks between them.
My only thought is that maybe I will eventually replace the top portions with a little thicker aluminum. Maybe 1/16 (.063) ". I looked at some .063 before going with the .045 and thought it might be too thick. Now I'm thinking that it might be better to go a little thicker as these seem a little "jiggly" when going over bumpy roads.
Another benefit is that the flap portion is now behind the wheelwell allowing more room for tires.
