Hey guys, got a question? I had taken my truck into the dealer yesterday because it is a little hard to start and I had a warrenty. Well now they found the problem and its a bad IDM. I know it wasn't the glow plugs or relay because it didn't give the normal signs for that. Where and how much can I pick up a IDM for a 01 F250. Great thing is the damn things not covered under warrenty.

I got one from these guys on ebay. Haven't installed it yet but called them first and they were pretty competant and helpful. Before you spend the $$ however, you should do all you can to make sure it is an IDM issue. As I've learned on here, several other things can (and do) fail and cause IDM codes to be set...when the IDM is not at fault. In my case, I've replaced everything else already.

aocabrown's got a good point. If it wasn't an experienced diesel tech, the computer may have just said to replace the IDM. What trouble codes did the dealer pull from your truck. What symptoms do you have. Please be as specific as you can.

Thanks for the replies fellas. I had been pretty busy around here. I don't know what the codes were but after them checking more on it they found a bad $16 relay! Truck starts and runs great since I picked it up yesterday morning. Wish I could say the same about my back, when I went to go pick it up we had a good amount of ice and slipped and tweeked my back. Maybe I'll be able to finally get the exhaust, intake, and dp in this weekend!!!

Sorry guys it took so long. My mom had been in the hospital and the kids and their school projects I've been so busy around here.
I think the relay was the #4 under the hood. The part # was FOAZ-14N089-A. I was in such a hurry to pick it up and we had a ice storm then, that I didn't even have them show me which one it was. The #4 relay was the newest looking one under there. Hope that helps some one out in the future!
