Unfortunately I didn't have my camera at work with me. 48 hour shift and had forgotten about the eclipse until I heard about it on morning radio on the way to work. Oh well, next time.
That was actually taken with my mom's camera with my lens on it. The battery went dead on my D50, so I ran over to her house and used her D40. Probably took 50 shots and that one was one of the better ones.
I took this Saturday night with the D50. It really did not look that color when I took it.
I like the little bigger body of the D50 personally, but it's hard to take a bad shot with the D40. I would not hesitate to buy one if I didn't have the D50. I don't own a tripod and really, I don't have a clue what I am doing when it comes to photography. That says a lot about these cameras and lens.
I balanced the camera on a 5' ladder for the first picture, the second one was just hand held. I can't say enough good things about the 55-200mm VR lens. You can pick one up for under $250. I think both pics were 1/100 or 1/125 at F11.
I just walked out the front door, it's starting to rain, so this is the best I can do right now. This gives you an idea of how well the VR lenses work.
The pole is about 150 away. Both pics are with the camera set to auto everything at 200mm with the VR turned off on the lense in the first one. I cropped and shrunk the pictures to make it easier to download.
You can tell from the pictures that I really didn't know what I was doing. Be sure to read the comments, they give you an idea of what I was up to.
This is where I was taking the pictures from. It's too bad I didn't know until later that you could rent the lookout for the night. If I'd have known that, and been a little more prepared for the cold, it'd have been a lot easier night.
I bought her the D40 for Christmas last year. I was tired of her complaining that her pictures sucked. I got it from Amazon for $48x, but it came down over the next week. I was able to get the price adjusted to $449. It came with the 18-55mm lens in the box, but at the time they offered the $100 off the 55-200 lens if you purchased it at the same time. I ended up getting that lens for like 88 bucks
dchamberlain, I like the sequenced shots. I don't think I'd have the patience to do that Is that right, 43 degree in August? I could deal with that! It was probably 78 degrees and humid that night here in Lake County, Florida.

Take a closer look at the GPS screen.
That's why I was so damn cold. I live at 4300 feet. It was nice and warm when I left so all I had as a coat was a light flannel shirt. When I got up to 7500, it was a bit nippy. Next time I'll be better prepared.
