On my 94 F150, 4x2, with a 5.0, with indicator light/button at the end of the shifter for the overdrive/drive isn't lighting up. I have no clue if i'm in overdrive or drive. i took it to a shop for another purpose and he said the code said something was wrong with the transmission. Its been like this for about 6-10 months now. I believe it started after my clock spring went out. I recently had that replaced and it didn't solve the problem.
Just wondering if anyone has some suggestions.
Go to your parts house and get a $30.00 code reader ( you can do it with a paper clip if you search the posts for it) and post the codes. Then we have an idea on where to go.
my Mechanic wrote on my receipt that codes 116, 121, and 636 were the ones that showed up. One of those was for my mass air flow sensor. It went off because i was sucking in air right before the throttle body due to a folty tube running from the air filter he said. He also told me that one of them was something for a cooling problem, not sure what it was about. I was thinking that one might be cause i put a bigger radiator in my truck than came stock
Not real sure how to check it considering it is run up the shaft of the shift lever. the end where the button is does swivel a bit though and you can pull it out alittle bit. dont know if that means anything
my Mechanic wrote on my receipt that codes 116, 121, and 636 were the ones that showed up.
116 --O (Key off, engine off KOEO), R (Key on , engine running KOER) Engine coolant temperature higher or lower than expected.
121-- O (Key off, engine off KOEO), R (Key on , engine running KOER), C (Continuous memory CM) Closed throttle voltage higher or lower than expected
636-- O (Key off, engine off KOEO), R (Key on , engine running KOER) Transmission oil temperature higher or lower than expexted
From these codes, I would check the temp sending unit. Not the one that feeds your guage but the one that feeds your computer. I have no idea where it is but I am sure that others will chime in on the location or another troubleshooting idea.
thats why is will pull away from the shaft?? cause it can come off? interesting. since its already loose I'll just prob pull it off if its the piece i'm thinking of that has the indicator light on it. anyword on those codes?
Those codes completely confused me. so you are thinking that the temperature sending unit might solve these problems?
From the codes, yes. You have a sending unit for your guage and another for your computer. I am not sure where the computer one is but once you find it, check the wire or replace it. It looks like this is the error you are getting. I may be wrong so after you find it, wait for a few more posts from other people that have had this problem. They may have a better idea.
If the truck was not up to operating temp, it may throw those temperature codes. If the throttle was not opened when running the KOEO test it may throw the TPS code.
You really need to clear these codes and run a self test yourself under known circumstances.
