2004 remote start

I have a 2004 SD and want to add remote start. I already have keyless entry but want to add the start feature. I was wondering does anyone know how much of the system may already be in the vehicle. Does it already have the module nad I can change the small ECM on it and add the start or do I have to change more. OR do I have to have a seperate unit? I am going to use a Ford unit but am not sure what I need to buy to add. The dealer is not much help since they want to install it all. Any help will be appreciated.

I wanted to do the same thing. Talked to the ford dealer. 300 for the ford "kit". Seems they didnt want to install it as they said it was a real pain in the a$$. They pretty much talked me out of it stating that they had many problems with previous installs. As I took it, they didnt know what they were doing and they had problems before due to that. They mentioned something like 5-800 for the install on top of the kit. Let me know what you find out, cuz I could really use the remote start.

I had the Ford remote start added by the dealer at the time I purchased the truck in November '05. Cost around $400. This way it was covered under the Ford extended warranty. Have not had a single problem since day one. Really a great option for here in Minnesota, especially this past month.
