Yeah, but I want my order filled first, with no back orders!! UNLESS they are closed knucle, drum brakes, in that case, all I want are the spicer hubs for $20 a pair.
Hey you guys are forgetting that in the 80's and up the spring perches are much wider. You cant just fab a new mount and bolt it up, the spring perch would be right in the pot basically touching the ring gear!!!! I've thought about it because they are easier to find but it wont work! The only way you could get it to work would be to retube it to a 70's style length and change inner axles to suit but who would want to do that waste of time and $$$ I've seen fords running chevy and dodge dana 60's lots over where I'm from they just run a divorce Chevy t case so the drivesaft is on the right side.(you do have to modify the spring perches but at least its not in the pot)
check craigslist, there all over. ive seen 78-79s goin for $750 and ball joints goin for $450 but then ive seen them go for +$1400. it just depends on how stupid the person is thats selling them.
high steer is when your tie rod is relocated to above the leaf spring. I have a crossover set up which I am putting on high steer. There are steering arms bolted to the top of the kingpins on the front axle. The passenger side one has two tapered holes one for the draglink from the steering box and another for the new tie rod to bolt to the arm on the driverside axle. i'll post a pic
thats it. you will have to outboard your driver side spring mounts to line up with the cast in spring perch. The passenger side perch can be cut off and moved.
actually i think this answers my question
STGFordCrazy04 would you please alaborate on this?
I wouldn't mess with the spring width you would have to build hangers and shackles on the outside of the frame....eeeww ugly beggin for safety inspection
The idea behind buying a later D60 for a cheap price is to sell it to somebody at a profit to pay for the axle you need for your truck. Keep in mind that any axle can be made to fit the front of our trucks, whether its a D30 from a jeep, a D27 TTB setup from a Bronco 2, to a 10 ton rockwell. If you have the smarts and tools, or a deep pocket book, anything can work.
well good luck with that.... the spring sits under the frame not inside for starters. If you get a vehicle inspection it will never be allowed on the road ever again like that. O and it would probably get right in the way with your steering linkage
I put a 79 Dana 60 on craigslist for $1200 a few months ago and had it sold within 1 day. I had guys calling from all over the west coast that wanted it, saying that they couldn't find them that reasonable in their area. And I thought I had priced it a little high.
The cheap, early kingpin D60 is an urban legend in the wheeling world. Kinda like the easter bunny and Elvis sightings... If I could buy them for under $800 and resell them, I could afford to quit my day job.
Another urban legend is finding D60s at pick and pull It does happen once in a while....
The secret to finding cheap D60s is to buy the entire truck, swap in a 44, resell the truck, and sell teh 60 separate (or just part the truck out, either way works good if you have the time, space and inclination to do so.)
