Hello all first ever post. I need help with a 2000 EB. A couple of weeks ago I steamed cleaned the motor. I caused one of the cyclinder coil packs to get wet and cause a misfire. I repalced all the plugs and coil pack boots dielectric in all connections, misfire gone. While repairing the misfire the car would not turn over. No solenoid click nothing. I was able to start the car by jumping across the firewall solenoid. Thought I had a bad solenoid, replaced no problems with starting anymore. When the car would not start the first time, I was trying to turn it over and the radio went off and the door locks went crazy. After replacing the solenoid all problems went away except the key fob does not work. It won't control the doors or set off the panic alarm. I did some research and thought I had a wet Gem module. Pulled module and fuse block no corrosion, windshields not leaking. Figured I got the Gem wet when I steamed cleaned. Does anyone have a suggestion on what I may be missing? Or am I going to have to replace the GEM? Can I check for codes with a OBDII scan tool. Help please.
you can check for codes but the normal obdII scan tool more then likely will not pull the vehicle security module codes you need. i would go into the program mode of the vsm and try to reprogram your key fob and see if it will retake the code from your fob your owners manual will tell you how to program new key fobs good luck
Already tried to reprogram several times with both key fobs. New batteries in both, no luck. The keyless entry touch pad works fine and the theft light is blinking every two seconds with the key in off position and goes off when you start it. Maybe its time to have the dealer diagnois it for me, I just don't trust them very much.
i dont belive the theft light is part of the vsm it may communicate with it but they are different modules have you checked your fuses maybe one is blown but i think the keyless entry touch pad goes through the vsm also. if you have not done so disconnect the truck battery for a while and see if the system will reset. other then that the manual i have says to pull codes to go through troubleshoothing steps.
The generic electronic module (GEM) constantly monitors its subsystems for concerns. If a concern is found in one of the subsystems, the GEM will record the concern in the form of a diagnostic trouble code (DTC).
The ignition switch position is very important to the GEM function. Often times, erratic or unexpected GEM function can be traced to problems with these GEM inputs.
Thanks for the help guys, I am out of Ideas. Ive checked everything obvious and them some. I still have the dash appart, Im taking it in to Ford for a diagnosis. If its the gem Ill replace it myself and save the labor. As much as I hate to admit it I need the dealer on this one.
