edelbrock performer kit or put together my own stuff
[updated:LAST EDITED ON 14-Oct-02 AT 09:13 PM (EST)]ok i was looking on jegs and saw the performer kit on there,it has a cam carb lifers intake and some other stuff.for like 500 bucks do i got with that or do i build my own stuff. i was thinkin stock cam and lifters new crank 400m pistons and new 4bbr carb and intake what do u suggest for a lot of tourqe for a 351m. cus i dont wanna but up with jegs sales people if i dont have to .because i might kill one of them and they have the reputation of sending u the wrong stuff and charging stuff that they didnt say and is there any thin i should know a bout kick downs or any thing like that. cuz i just want to bolt every thing right out the box a waist a set of tires because it is is really funny when they blow

yeah, the specs on the performer-plus cam look pretty lame, even for a 351 - and for a 400 (sounds like you converted?) you should be able to run something a little hotter and still have good low-end torque. it seems like many in the aftermarket are worried that their customers will get something a little hotter (less streetable) than what they really have in mind, so they go WAY overboard in the opposite direction by recommending really lame parts!
i also don't understand how they (the aftermarket in general, not just elelbrock) can recommend the same cam for a 351M and a 400, or a 302 and a 351W - and why they don't list a different rpm range for an intake when used on different cid motors...

I would visit the Compcams website , thier Magnum cams are great , second down from those are good too . They really know how to design cams ! I agree on the Edelbrock stuff , I looked at that Performer package when I built my last V8 Jeep engine and the specs on the cams seemed lame to put it best .
