6.0 in my future?

My truck is pushing 80k miles now and I'm wondering, should I be the person to push it past the waranty? I'm 17 and paying for my own truck (not cheap) diesel (really not cheap) and insurance (not too bad), after doing all that I don't have too much spending money left over between paychecks and I'm wondering what my options are. I'm heading into college and what I've got has to last me and be trouble free (mostly anyway) for most of that time. I don't pull extreme loads with the truck, I vurtually never use my DS tuner any more but there is still that nagging voice in my head and the few people that tell me to trade it off. That said I started looking for cars, specificly Mustangs to see what my options are but I don't have much money to trade with that being said, if I do trade I want to put as little money in as possible so I'm thinking realisticly what is my truck worth as a trade in and what is the best option to get rid of it? I don't think private sale is the way to go because that takes forever and usually you don't get much for your time and money spent.

My truck is sitting at 78254miles right now, has leather interior, pwr windows, locks, mirrors, in bed toolbox, single cd (keeping my stereo), like new tires only 5k miles on them, 5k on brake job, ford drop in bedliner, the chrome tow hooks and running boards, pwr seats, both sides, center console, and carbon fiber accents it has the amarillo package installed before all the stickers and special seats, 18'' rims, you can check every kind of carfax, ford database and anything else, the truck has never had a problem and has always been serviced on time.
There is the good, now here is the ugly.
It has a small tear in the drivers seat directly on the bottom, the previous owner sat in the seat with a screw driver in back pocket and punched a hole about an inch long maybe less, it would cost about $125 at the local upholstery shop to fix, it has some small scuffs and knicks on the lr fender right near the bottom, needs sanding, primer, and repaint, it has some light paint rub off on the fender flare on the rr tire, and a small knick on the tailgate (touchup). All in all it looks great, just small stuff really.

It blue books at $21,630 how realistic is it to expect this as trade in price? Am I just listening to all the horror stories or am I moving the right direction? I was shopping for a Mustang with a V8, has to have leather and a 5spd at a min, I found a great mustang in Dallas that fit the bill with 11,000miles on the clock for $19,000 what do you think they'd offer in this situation?

Try not to flame me here guys, I didn't buy the truck to be a 'poser' I needed it (maybe not this much) but I did need it at the time, and now things are changing, I want to keep it but seeing that I could trade for something a year newer and with 67,000 less miles really got me thinking....

Well, I have always believed, buy what you need. It does not sound like you need a Superduty. It sounds like you have way more truck then you need at this time. However, keep it, and if your can afford it, you will be happy. I don't care what anyone tells you, after 100k ALL vehicles are going to need a repair sooner or later. If you can't afford it, get rid of it. These are not cheap trucks to keep on the road. I had a 2005 F150 before this and loved it, however, she just couldnt handle an 11k TT. Good Luck.

Bluebook is really only a guesstimation. It's not solid and a dealer doesn't have to give you what bluebook says. You can haggle them up to your price range, if you HAGGLE. Plus, if you want to put little to no money down you're just going to get deeper into negative equity(if you're financing). Do you own it outright or do you finance?

This is where it's sticky, my parents own the truck my Dad sold it to me and they are financing it for me. So technically yes, they own it. Right now if I can swing the deal it's a go ahead (figuring they approve of the actual car) I'm just trying to figure out what to expect the dealer to come back with on my truck and actual money changing hands...

You'll do way better off selling it yourself than trading in.

The power stroke will last a long time past warrenty, I have had them go 250k with no engine problems at all. Switching to a car is all on what your needs really are.
