You will be hunting a long time because Ford didn't make 4 bolt caps for the 400. Thy were available on some 351C engines but used a smaller main journal. Stock 351C caps are not worth modifying.
Milodon makes angled 351C 4 bolt caps but they are not cheap and would have to be modified for a larger bearing and fitted. $$$
Several aftermarket caps are available for the 351W but have a different bolt spacing. Shazam used a 351W stud girdle, modified to the 400 bolt spacing.
http://www.f-p-s.com/ makes 351C stud girdles. They may fit a 400.
I haven't checked the bolt spacing from a 460 yet.
All replacement caps should be align honed for proper fit.
BrainS is right and I didn't know about this place or I'd had gotten one from them.

But what I learned so far is the bottom end of a 400 is very stout.
It handles all the power I built so far with out letting go.With only the addition of a Stud Girdle.
[updated:LAST EDITED ON 18-Oct-02 AT 10:17 AM (EST)]I think this is the place you meant. I saw 351C caps, but you mentioned they could make the 400 center caps for $285?

responded to me with a "Yes sir, we sure do" when i asked if they make 4 bolt caps for the 400.
So my options just opened up some more.
I wonder is doing a short fill of hardblock would help this engine survive some more upper RPM's?
[updated:LAST EDITED ON 21-Oct-02 AT 07:25 PM (EST)]Please tell me what a "Stud Girdle" is. Is it the same thing as a windage tray? I looked for a pic but couldn't find one (-:.
>Thank you Shazam! How hard was it to modify? Anything
>special to do?
It was pretty easy all I had to do was move the holes out about 3/16" on each side and then do some clearancing for the rods and add some spacers to clear the cap humps .....
