LOL, when we talk about 40 we talk about it getting "up to 40"
Up to 40 above or up to 40 below??? LOL
Just how cold does it get where you're at anyhow? I know a guy on a garden tractor site who's up in Tok that took oil samples out in really cold weather, some of it looked like a popsickle on a stick, it was almost solid....
Your housings might make it ok. The housings in my Explorer are the factory ones with the fluting and stuff in 'em. The ones in my Mustang are a diamond clear style. I'm not sure what you have, but the diamond clear ones might not glare as badly.
I went to Ebay. Clicked on to the first add I saw. They had picture clips of different cars and different heat range bulbs. To me every single one of the pictures showed me huge glare. I think I'll stick to my GE Nighthawks.
These headlight housings are diamond clear ones and I don't think they're that bad.

I understand that these kits aren't the optimal or maybe even the correct way to have HIDs, but I don't have money to do a retrofit and really don't think I have the skill to do it right. As long as I'm not blinding the crap out of people I'll keep running these things.
They look pretty good from what you pictured with your diamond clear lens, but having stock oem 01 lenses I could almost bet very poor results. If I wasn't satisfied with what I had then a more drastic approach might be in order.

Yeah I'm not sure how it would turn out... you can always swap out to '05+ headlights.
I have a 04 and the headlight lens are mostly clear. Is this the daimond lenses? what is the difference between all the HID bulb #'s?4600, 5200? sorry #'s mihjt be wrong.
Those should be diamond clear, although I'm not familiar with the pattern those lights give.
Those numbers indicate the color temperature of the bulb in kelvin. 3000k is on the lower end of the spectrum and will emit a warmer, yellow color. As you go higher up the scale the color gets cooler or whiter (4300k - 6000k), to a point, then gets blue or purple (8000k +).
Higher color temperatures actually emit less usable light... when the light starts getting blue there's less contrast and makes your eyes strain. (I had some blue Nokya bulbs and they really killed my eyes.) I would go no higher than 6000k if you want good lighting and in retrospect I wish I would have gotten 4300k...
