Oil Pan Replaced...cob-job way ;) 56k WRNING

Ok well, I did this a few months ago before I headed down to TX.
I wanted to get it done before the trip because if my badly rusted pan started leaking while i was down here ide have to pay someone to change it out and blah blah...in other words TO MUCH MONEY!

Now I know someone is gonna tell me I did it wrong and I shoulda done it the RIGHT way. Well since I didnt have the time/money I think it went pretty well for the time(7hrs) and money(about 200 bucks) I spent on this job.

I got tons of before and after pics so bear with me as I try to explain each one properly.

This is the before photo, just driving over the pit so we would start measuring and working on it, and no thats not me in the pic thats my father THANKS FOR THE HELP DAD! As you can see from the photo the WI winters have indeed took its toll on the pan, and pretty much anything thats metal.

Here is the pass.side of the oil pan and soon to be cut crossmember, notice the rust...its actually worse then it looks!

After MANY sparks and a few grindering wheels we finally got the crossmember outa there.

Here is what it looks like underneath.

After some cutting, hammering, and alot of painfull knuckle busting drilling we mocked up the cross member in there and got a feel for what it would look like. I literally blew off the ford paint on the peice of crossmember we cut out...it was that 'bad'?

Im sad to say that I was to 'busy' taking off the old oil pan I didnt get any pictures of how "happy" i was to take it off with many many many hammer blows and alot of prybar action to get the ford sealent broke loose. I dont know what they use but that ***** is TUFF!

Im happy to announce that im 100% sure I do have forged rods as this picture shows.

Found the number 5315 on the inside back of the block

This is the first time ive actually been inside a powerstroke and I didnt know wat to think of when i saw my cylinder walls......wat ya think???

What do you guys think of my cam...that look like normal wear?

I did check for all 8 oil spuirters for loosness...all were good.

After getting it all cleaned up, pan back on, let gasket dry I gave her the usual Rotella SYN bath and started it up, checked for leaks....FYI dont forget the oil filter!!! luckliy or unluckliy my dad was down there and he got a good dose of it and let me know...thanks again dad!! Then we welded some strees welds on the crossmember so I could check to see if the cross member had been stressed to much....it looks the day we welded it.

Here the pan installed after 3 coats of POR-15

And this is my old man helping me clean up my mess! Thanks dad!!

If anyone has doughts that this can't be done...PM me.

All in all I am pleased with it, if someone was going to do this themselves I would suggest you get the gasket maker that ford uses......noting else like it out there!

Man, I don't know what to say except your dad is the bomb. I would have pulled the block. Of course I cannot do the welding you did, Glad you have the forged units.

Nice pics BTW.

Great job and nice pics. 200 bucks and 7 hours makes this an attractive alternative for those with rusty pans that will eventually leak.
Can't see why you would ever have a problem after seeing the job you guys did.

You've got a great Dad, but of course you know that. Here's a toast to him .

Thanks for sharing.

I'm sure glad I live in Arizona .

How high would a guy have had to lift the engine up to get the pan out, compared to cutting that crossmember?

Looks like a great job done, nice welds, and you have one hell of a nice truck man!

Thanks for the comments guys..

Ude have to take off the turbo and unbolt it from the trans to MAYBE have enough room....if ur gonna do that then you might as well take it completly out.

Funny thing about the welds...everyone seems to say its a good job, personally I wasnt satisfied with them because I was ansy and didnt clean the metal good enough. But it still turned out decent

Yep...prolly woulda took a few extra hrs and a few cases of beer if it wasnt for my dad.
