I put a Procomp 4" lift on my 2003 FX4 and had to remove/replace the front spring and noticed that I had to move the front axle a little bit to get it to line up. I have not driven it since the lift ( finished late) and was wondering if a little movement of the axle would be a bad thing. I have lots more questions about this lift now that I installed it. I thought it was an unbelievable PITA !!!.
Every nut and bolt fought me. Nothing alligned perfectly. Is this common?
If anybody has installed Procomps let me know if you had the same issues. ( I have more issues if I can get help on this I will continue with a couple of other things I would like to know.
Well, I can't help you there but, I helped my neighbor put a procomp 6" on his chevy 1500 and it was a PITA also. He also had to cut a portion of the frame (yes directions stated to do that) I had to drink about 5 beers while he did that. From that day on I told myself that I would never buy a PC lift.
Things can be difficult to line up if you leave the trac bar hooked up.
As long as the center pins are properly seated in the leaf spring perch and you torqued everything to spec once the weight was back on the ground it should be fine.
My Donahoe Racing 4" springs went in pretty easy. Some parts were difficult, but nothing out of line. I had almost everything disconnected though so nothing to fight. Wheels were off and only thing connected to the axles was brake lines and drive shaft. I think the hardest part was getting the axle low enough to fit the new springs in without stretching the brake lines too far.
I have the procomp 4" kit...
I thought it went well, however the factory loctite made it a struggle until i started heating the nuts, and the pittman arm broke my puller(of course the four foot pipe i used as a cheater had nothing to do with it...).
That axle is a great big and heavy, and naturally i had to work it a little to get it
mounted, but not too terribly unreasonable.
I've installed several leaf spring lifts and they never go right in. Its best to unhook everything off the axle.(I unhooked breaklines and driveshaft, and sway bar) its extra work but it makes job easier, less wrestling. If there is a couple more people, you could unhook less. I have an air impact so it doesn't take to long to yank everything else. By hand it would be more time consuming.
Our 1/2" impact wasn't enough for the trac bar bolts, that needed a breaker bar and cheater. Also, heat on the pitman arm was necessary or I think I would have broken the puller.
my 4" pro comp went on fine, but it was tough to get the track bar hooked back up... with the help of another person in the cab manipulating the wheel i finally got it, but it took some work... needed an extra 1/2" (or an adjustable unit) and it'da been much easier.
