Humming tires
Humming tires
im getting a loud humming from my new tires. They stop humming when im on a turn or a curve but when im on a straight away the humming returns. The tires are Trail mark All Terrain (immitation b/f goodwrench) something or others, i switched from no tread road tires and i wasnt used to the noise. The tires are properly inflated and its a 4wd.
thats what i figured they were pretty cheap but they look just like bf goodwrench all terrains. Its not too bad, the exhaust covers it but im tired of my girl friend asking "whats wrong with your truck" or "that sound is really annoying"

Why tires hum....
...they don't know the words (badda boom)...
Buying low-end no-name tires puts you at risk for this kind of thing. There are internet resources like tirerack.com that have tons of owner reports rating essentially all name-brand tires that they carry for noise, wet/dry/snow traction, etc. It is sometimes worth researching sites like this before you decide on a tire purchase, and I've found that good name brand tires, although they cost more, end up being no more expensive per mile and less prone to giving you problems like noise, bad traction, poor wear, etc.
If they are new tires, you might want to talk with the dealer to see if they'll give you a credit toward something better....I know that Firestone and Bridgestone, at least, have a 30-day money back guarantee (you may have to pay for mounting/balancing).

not just "low-end" tires hum. I had a set of Michelin put on my car.... set me back about $900.... boy - did they make noise! finally had to go back with a sey of "no-name" from Discount Tires to quieten it down.
