If you can afford 12 mpg, want a F-350 that is as quiet as any Lincoln, runs around corvette's, climbs mountains like a goat, eats snow, belch's white smoke, digests bad ulsdf, sometimes eliminates black smoke, and own the finest truck on the road go for it; if not, drive your old truck, be happy, and kick your dog.

I have yet to experience a regen; I am happy with 11 + mpg around town, would not take back my 2005 F-350 and feel the truck I have is one of a kind. Too many inside updates over your 7.3 to enumerate, but everyone is knocking the 2008's and you can buy them for $10,000.00 under MSRP.

Wear your NIKE shoes to the dealer of your choice, and JUST DO IT!

No question, keep your 7.3! Spend $5k and put king ranch interior into your 01! Who wants V-10 gas mileage in a diesel pickup that costs 45k? Jeez spend 10-15k on yours and it would be 10x times better than one of these EPA things! You could save thousands fixing up your 01!!! The things you could do to an 01 would be sweet! Ford is warantee voiding happy now and these new EPA trucks are fancy on the inside, but trust me you have a hell of a better motor in your 7.3!! My .02cents....

Don't suppose your related to Tom? But from what I have read the real bad thing about these trucks is fuel economy. My dad is a Ford diesel tech and says that he has seen 4 trucks in, 1 for a radiator, 1 for a cracked dpf and fuel economy concern, and the other for a loose connector.

At least we won't blow smoke up his axx!! My dealer is seeing more and more
08's coming in. I can not say anything bad about the ride or the motor! It is the DPF and radiators and little things mostly made in Mexico I would bet. but there are afew folks that have had motor issues.

I really liked my 7.3 and if you want to mod it, well you should keep it,
and put coils in the front. have a good trans put in it! and mod away have fun with out the big payment.
I am going to give it one more try and if this new truck is junk I will be buying
an older truck and customizing it to the max with new tech stuff. or maybe try a GMC.

I m not one sided here! I jot rid of my 7.3 and my 6.0 for an 08 550. It is a job 1 truck and it was no mistake. I love the truck that i have had not one problem with in 20000 miles, mostly loaded miles at 40000 lbs combined weight. 4:30 gears auto 4x4 200 inch wheel base crew cab, 7 mpg loaded and 11 not.
To the others that all they do is complain, it is ok to state that you have problems but to dwell on them not good for your health, and it seems like you are trying to drag everyone else down with you. Im sorry about your problems and hope you get them solved. Anything that you buy today you take a chance of getting a bad one, there is that thing called the human factor. Just buy what you wont and take what you hear and read with a grain of salt.

WES:
I do believe you have answered your own question in a thread you started earlier this month. As you are aware, diesel fuel as we purchased recently is a thing of the past, and after 2010 will not be available. For your ready reference I cut 'n pasted your previous thread:

"Sup everyone, i own a 2001 f250 7.3 for 2 years now and has done great till the ULSD fuel came out i been using Fords Cetane Booster and
Improver and my fuel filters are still solid white after 5000 miles, recently my truck has been shaking at idle, so i went to the local ford place and used the IDS with no lights on the dash it said injector 8 is starting to go out, also i only had 2 injectors with a strong buzz test, my buddy mike who is a senior master tech said the additve works and tranny fluid bc of the detergents and lube does anyone have any suggestions to help keep my injectors alive."

I have an 01, and have absolutely no problems digesting the new fuel. I don't have a clue as to why others are. Could it be, some might have problems with injectors, rather than the fuel?

I have been adding a gallon of ATF into the fuel every 30,000 miles, and at 130,000 miles have had absolutely no engine related problems.

Transmission had to be rebuilt, but that certainly had nothing to do with the fuel.

Richard

PS: Personally, I prefer my 7.3s 20 mph on the highway, 17 city mpg, and 16 towing mpg, vs the 6.4 figures. But, that's only me.
