Frame swaps? anyone try?

I am not sure if this is a stupid question or not, but has anyone ever attempted to switch a early 80's cab and box onto a 87 or later frame? The reason I am asking is because i have a 83,150 2x4,single cab, longbox that has roughly 40000 miles on it and the front end is shot. My buddy has the same truck that is an 87-90 but his body is crap. We were wondering if it was at all possible to switch my body onto his frame. Also, would it be better to go older we also have a 77 at our disposal thanks for any replies.

The frames from 80-96 should be identical so the swap can be done. Anything earlier than that won't work if I remember right because the frames on the 73-79's are narrower.

Thanks Big Hoss

thanks for clearing that up. How would you suggest separating the body from the frame. cab and front clip together or seprate?

I would leave the tires on the donor frame, seperate the front clip from the cab, and then gut the frame to make it as light as possible. Take the bed off the frame too. You could get a bunch of friends and have 3 of them help you lift the cab off the frame while a couple more roll the frame out from under it, or, you could just jack the cab up using 4 jacks and 2x6's and then roll the frame out from under the cab.
