Is it worth it?
I have a chance to buy a 1992 Ford Explorer 4 door 4x4. It has a rebuild 4.0L OHV engine and a rebuilt automatic trans. (with a 1 year warrenty) new radiator,exhaust system from the manifolds - tip, brakes all the way around, 4 new good year tires. No rust or dints, few scratches in the paint. it is touch button 4x4. the interior is in good condition for the age, no tears in the cloth seats, no stains or cracks in the dash. the only real problem is it leaks water in side thru the lift gate. it looks to be a simple fix, gate is way out of adjustment. Its my cousin that owns it and he really takes care of his stuff. he as over 6,000 invested and is willing to sell it for 3,500. im not sure of the gear ratio in the axles but it avg 17-18 mpg so i would guess 3.73 ~ 4.10 with out lookin at the tags. is it worth it?

Since he is a relative, ask if you can do a long term test drive - well at least a week. See if it meets your needs and take it to a third party to look it over.
3000 or less is ballpark for that vintage.

How many miles are on it? 3500 is not a great deal for a 92. Was the rebuilt engine and trans done professionally and do you have documentation? Keep in mind if you were to total it tomorrow, the insurance company would only give you 2k at most. The weak points on the Gen I's are: transmission, radius arm bushings, and rust in the rear qtrs and dog legs.
