Towing Mirror Advice...
I just purchased me a 99 Jayco Eagle 30' fifth-wheel camper and I'm sure I'm gonna need me some towing mirrors for my 2000 F-250 XLT 7.3 4x4. I know I can get Ford towing mirrors, but then, I wouldn't be able to get my truck in the garage without rolling down the window and pulling a mirror in (my truck has the sport mirrors and it BARELY fits..)
My question is this: I know that a friend of mine has clip-on extentions for his Chevy mirrrors...is there a similar mirror for the Fords? If so, has anyone used them ? What do you think ? Any and all tips are greatly appreciated !
Thanks
Scott

i have used the ones with the two rubber straps on them and i hate them but i like the useage of the tow mirrors (about to install a pair on my truck) so i am a bit biased. I have used the removable so i could see around my 26 foot mobile scout bumper pull. they will shake a little but you seem to not have much of choice if you cant use the factory style tow mirrors.

When I had my '00 F-150, I bought a set from my local RV dealer for about $40 which worked OK but I don't remember what the brand was. I left them in my 150 when I traded it in for my current F-350. The only vibration problem I had was the passenger side but that was because my mirror assembly was loose on the door.

Tow mirrors
Hi Cobra. Try these guys web site and look under towing on the products list. They sell **** replacement or extensions for the Ford HD. This web site is very good for looking at aftermarket accessories. www.mobiletruckaccessories.com up in Calgary very nice designed web site.

Could you drive in the garage if you just folded in the driver side mirror? All you would need to do is roll down the window part way. Very easy.
If I were in your shoes I would check the junk yard to see how much they want for mirrors. You should be able to find a set in great condition with all the hardware. No need for brand new mirrors when the rest of the truck is 8 years old.

The stock heated folding mirrors I have are good. They extend for towing, back to normal when you're not towing. They are an easy retrofit into your truck.
When I do get to park my truck in a garage (rare these days) I found that all I needed to do was roll down my window and pull in ONE mirror, then just enter the garage a little towards the drivers side. No need to stop and pull them both in.

I've had (actually still have them...just don't use 'em) the strap-on extension mirrors. I wouldn't waste anymore time even thinking about them. Nothing beats the Ford towing mirrors. One of those sacrifices you'll have to make to get what you need will be the garage parking. My truck is too long for my garage, so I can't park it in there anyway, but having to roll down the window to fold in the mirror is a small price to pay for having the right mirror for the job.

I had the paddle mirrors on my truck before I changed to the OEM extendable trailer tow mirrors and I found they were only 1 1/2 " wider at most on each size when they are not extended. This is not a significant difference and as one poster mentioned, you should just be able to pull in the driver side mirror to make the truck fit.
Just be sure to get the OEM mirror with the double swing (go forward and back) then if you happen to hit the garage door on the way out you won't destroy the new mirror as they will swing toward the front as well.
How wide is your garage door? 7 feet? I'm going to measure my truck width today with the OEM mirrors out of curiosity. This is one of the reasons I am putting 9' wide doors in the new garage. (9' high as well, as I don't like the minimal clearance that the 7' high doors provide).
