pto help

77 f350 dumpbody. i just finished work on my pto. i don't know what to do. i pull the cable to engage the pto and it spins. do i pull the other handle? i thought it was pulled when you want to lower the body. the pto spins nothing else. does it need to be bled out? thanks

helps if we know what kind of pto, does it run off the trans or transfer case? is it hyd, or mechanical? mechanical, pull the cable to engage the pto, push lever one was to up one way for down. try idling it up some might be slow

its a chelsea pto mechanical. two seperate cables. i thought one was for pto engagement and one to pull to drop the body. i stepped on the gas some, after 3 minutes it didn't go up.

pto is on the tranny (np435).

I would imagine you put your foot on the clutch and then pull the first lever, idle up just a hair then let out on the clutch slowly then you pull the second lever back to start raising the dump then you leave the lever kinda like in nuetral to hold what you have and push it back forward to let it down, then push the first lever forward to disengage the pto. Thats how mine is but its with cables not levers.

i too have cables. do you need to bleed air from the lines? are they like brakes?

so, push the clutch in, pull to engage the pto, release clutch, idle it up and pull second cable to operate dump? correct? to drop the bed do you disengage the pto first or the other cable?

just the other cable. The pto can still be engaged while you're lowering the bed. First cable for pto engaging and second for raising and lowering.

cool thanks. how long does it take to work air through the lines, or does it need to be bled off? i removed the pump/ hydro box to replace seals, and yet to get it working.
