The PTO Provision Option is $250 MSRP/$213 Invoice extra. Does anybody use this feature? What do you use it for? I'm curious what equipment is available one would use PTO for on a truck other than maybe a winch. Thanks Fred
[updated:LAST EDITED ON 14-Dec-02 AT 01:07 PM (EST)]They are used for plow ,dumpbody ,winch front end attachments like a power broom, snow blower ! those are all I have heard .Oh A canadian
uses them to power start generators in the oil fields western canada
I beleive you only pay for PTO option when you order an Auto, my truck on order has the manual and it has the PTO option at no charge.
You would use a PTO for any power output you need, a dump bed that uses hydraulics would be one example, many fleets use this option, such as phone companies for bucket trucks, or trucks outfitted to run on railroad tracks also use the PTO feature I beleive to lower the steel rail wheels, the list goes on and on.
Thanks, My info is from a service that my credit union has showing available options and costs. Past experience from others has it being reliable, however it might wrong here or I may be reading it wrong. Anyway it says that the PTO option is available and if you pick the 5.4 engine, you must get the 6spd. I think Rockwell may be correct. Anybody know for sure.
Provision Only. Req. aftermarket PTO. Avail. w/6.8L or PowerStroke diesel engine w/auto trans (std. w/manaul trans)
Again I put it to you, the PTO is standard on all manual trans and optional (at a cost) with auto trans. This is not to say you cant maybe get the dealer to "throw in" the PTO free of charge, but as Ford sees it, it is a chargable option on an auto trans.
<<<Anyway it says that the PTO option is available and if you pick <<<the 5.4 engine, you must get the 6spd
The above seems to be correct as they do not list the 5.4 with an auto trans as being eligible for the PTO. According to Fords wording it would seem the only way to get PTO with the 5.4 is to go with the manual. But who knows, maybe someone else on the board actually has the 5.4 w/auto and PTO option?
Also when I say PTO, i mean the provision for, not the actual PTO itself.
I've been thinkin about getting a winch for my truck, and I would like to run it off the PTO. All of the winches I have seen are either electric or run off the power steering pump. Does anybody know of a manufacturer for a PTO based winch? Also, does anybody have any info on how the PTO's work on these trucks. I've used them on a farm before on tractors, but never seen how one works on these trucks.
Thanks!

You might try a search here in this forum !(if its up right now )
Awhile ago we talked about this ,with a picture of a hydraluc pump and quick disconnect hoses running to the front of the truck
the way it works is the pump and mount attach to the tranny where the cover is now ,a special cut gear drives the pump. Then just like on your farm equiptment, well maybe not exactly like farm equiptment because some can have shafts driven by the pto.
This uses hydralucs with hoses the older ones had a gearbox with a shaft to a pump with hoses.
The guys will correct me if I'm wrong
For a winch quick disconnect hoses would be the way to go ,so you can remove the winch when not needed. If its a portable !
I got into the site using Forty's link. Funny that "Tulsa" Winch is in Jenks. BTW, Ramsey winch is also located here.
Keep in mind that you only get a PTO provision (aka interface) from Ford. You still have to buy the actual PTO system that works the winch, plow, etc. I think there is only one system that fits the 4R100. Somebody posted that info some time back... if only we could search.
Thanks guys! You don't know how long I've been lookin for that stuff...thanks again!!
