I dont know what the pending code was or how to access it on the scanner, but the wife said it takes a long time for the car to warm up so the thermostat seems like a good bet. I'm going to Auto Zone this AM and pick up the book and thermostat and do this job tomorrow. Tonight I have a meeting with our Rally team that is trying to stop this illegal immigration. Paiinesville is a "santurary city" and it looks like littel Mexico! Gp
little mexico. you must have a home depot. as far as the car it sounds like the thermostat to me. when i looked up that code on alldata there was no diag for it. just check coolant or replace the thermostat
Home Depot and Lowes plus we have been listed as a "sanctuary city" by the minutemen newspaper and I already have picked up the thermostat and a Haynes to give me a few tips. Thank you very much and I will fire up the wood stove tomorrow AM an then start taking the upper intake manifold off. Will let you know what happens. G. Poling
live data means that you can look at sensor readings while the egine is running. you have a code reader so you can only get codes. i have a snap on solus scanner. it does just about everything. i can read all sensors, control all relays, make moniters run like your evap system, body functions. you would be amazed at how much control i have with my scaner. but it cost $4,000. since i am a mechanic i use it everyday so it pays for itself
No, I haven't used my $139.00 scanner while the engine is running, I don't tempt fate when the book say's turn the key on without starting engine to read codes is exactly what I do! That scanner you have sounds like you could hop on the back of it an ride it to the moon!! Wow..I don't know what benifit it would give me to control relays though but would like to learn.. Gary

Yep I just got a Snap-on Solus Pro, what a scanner!! I traded in the snap-on "brick" it was TOO outdated!! It was pretty expensive but its very nice. I like when your in live data were you can go from text to pid list, or you can graph up to 4 diff things it, very impressive.

The reason i asked is, if you could read live data on your scanner (i wasnt sure which one you had), you could watch what your ECT sensor was doing to determane whats wrong with the car.
Ok now you got me curious. What is the ECT sensor & how would it tell me what is wrong or how would I understand it? I think it's da-javoo that the senson is named ECT and that was the name of one of my first customers when I started in business back in 65-68, they got real big and then hired some nut (CEO) to run it and he screwed it up and they went under after having the world by the ***! Their name was ECT =Electric Connecter Terminals- All those little plastic ended wire crimped hook ups was made in Cleveland and they sold out to some guy in Florida after going under. Gary
Engine Coolant Temp sensor (ect sensor) the code that you have is a rational code. there is not a problem with the sensor. you have 2 coolant temp senors. one before the thermostat and one after. it is saying that the thermostat is opening to soon. you would get a curcit code if there was something wrong with the sensor itself. with this code and your wife saying that it takes a while to heat up, the thermostat is where i would put my money. if you have a email i can send you the diag flowchart right from chrysler. all it says is check the coolant and if its ok then change the thermostat.
Hey Elmo! I got done with the PT! It was the thermostat! When I finaly got the manifold cover off and took off the hose & the filler tube the two bolts that held the thermostat housing was easy to get at. That thermostat was in peices, so didn't take a rocket sicientist to see it was bad. Wife took the car to Wal-Mart (were else) and came back saying the engine light was out and the heat was on! (Most important thing for a woman). I am happy that the little scanner works and even more happy that I found you guys on Ford Truck Enthusiasts! Thank you again so very much.
