Hey Elmo & 88, The light is OUT! I went back out in the garage, tossed another log in the stove an messed with the scanner and clear the codes (the scanner asked me) and the light went OUT! Hooray! And it seems to run smoother also. Thanks a bunch guys and mabey we could shoot a round of skeet or go Grouse hunting if you know where there is some. Best to you all! Now the wife wants me to put the light out on her PT crusier.. Damm, it never ends.. Gary

Trap and skeet is a good time. You will have to make a trip to Nemicolin Woodlands one time, they have it all. We go once a year to shoot sporting clay, what a blast. They also have trap, skeet, and 5 stand there. It is one of the top sporting clay coarses around.

Hey Elmo & 88!
Give me a break on the PT, back still hurts from bending over on the engine for that #4 plug and coil WAY IN THE BACK! Took me a few hours but what the heck I'm 67 and still can hunt. Elmo I never heard of Nemicolin but it sounds great and I go skeet shooting every weekend weather permiting, we will have to link up when I get Bush's tax rebate so I can buy gas to make it to Cinncenatti if thats where the gun club is, I still would rather grouse hunt.. When I get the garage warmed up later today I will plug in the scanner. G. Poling

Hey Elmo,
Well I got the garage warm and plugged the Actron scanner in the wife's 2003 PT Crusier that has the 2.4 L engine- automatic trans.
The codes that came up said PO128 -(1)coolant temp below thermostat Resulting Temp. Then PENDING
2 of (2) --- I DEFENTLY DON'T KNOW WHAT THEY ARE SAYING AT THIS POINT?
Does it mean the thermostat is bad? Engine was cold & not running when I pluged the scanner in, or was it low on fluid (I filled it up anyway) And I am not sure what PENDING is telling me. G. Poling

you have 2 types of codes. a hard code, and pending code. most codes take 2 trips to turn on the check engine light. a hard code means that it has happened more than 2 times, or it is a fault that will hurt the cat. converter (a miss fire code will set as soon as it happens, and will flash the check engine light when it happens.)

p0128. if the coolant is low this code will set. you will need to find the leak and fix it. if the coolant level is good then replace the thermostat. clear the code with the scanner and your good.

I did fill up the "fill-container" on the firewall that did not seem to be to low and overflowed with the littel (about a quart) I put in. I hate to tell you (you probably know) that finding the thermostat is going to be a trip becase it only took me 1/2 day to find out how to get the darn battery out! What a sadist that built this.
Also I took off the radiator cap and it was full also.

Would the thermostat be on the side of the engine block or in the radiator!
I suppose I will go back to Auto zone and get a PT Manual and thermostat.

You think that will take care of it? Thank you so much. G. Poling

follow the upper radiator hose to the engine. i think you have to remove the upper intake to get to it. it should not be to bad to do.

Thanks Elmo, You can't see crap in this thing and I will go out tomorrow and get a Hyanes manual and thermostat since I'm going to get trapped into this repair thing.
I used to be in the office machine repair business for about 30 years and when they came out with computers that put all of us out of business as none of us were electronic wiz kids and the electronics are made so cheap overseas that it doesn't pay to even repair them. I will warm up the garage tomorrow and take the cover off to expose the radiator hose on the block. Do you think I will need a gasket or anything else? Thank you again, Gary

I think what that code (P0128) is telling you is that the antifreeze temp. is not within spec when the car goes into closed loop. This could be either a faulty ECT (engine coolant temp) sensor, or is could be a bad thermostat. What was the pending code??
