I just got my edge today and was just wondering what everyone does for the power levels… Do u leave it on the highest or lowest and witch one gets the best gas mileage?
PLEASE read the manual first! I would suggest connecting the edge & run the current STOCK settings for a week to get used to the guages. Then try level 1 for a week or two. If you have plenty of $$$ go to level 3;otherwise try level 2.
When all fails RTFM.
The Edge is a nice modification if used as directed. However, if used in a reckless manner you may wish you had never heard of something called a tuner. This goes for all brands. As Sysman_Rick said above please read the manual to fully understand the product and its limitations. You can and will damage your truck if used improperly. I have one and like it, just proceed with caution. The canned tunes 1, 2 and 3 are plenty safe as long as you use the proper octane ratings, but you should be especially careful if you start messing with custom tunes.
i run mine on level 3 with 91 octane gas, but find it runs smoother if i bump my timing back 1/2 a degree. the gas i'm buying rated at 91 octane is probably more like 90 i figure
The most used tune is level 2. Level one only tunes the transmission so you will get better shifting performance but the engine will not be touched. Level two (Towing Tune) tunes the transmission and the motor for increased power and economy. This can be used with regular gas. Level 3 (Performance Tune) is the max canned tune. This also tunes the engine and transmission but does it to higher performance settings. This will require high octane fuel though.
You will get the best fuel economy from level three but with the increased cost of the higher octane fuel. I have always just ran mine on the canned level 2 tune. You never want to tow a good sized trailer with level 3(Just something good to remember). Like the others have said read the manual good. For now put the tuner on level 2 and enjoy it. Once you get use to it and understanding it you can mess with the custom perimeters. Like I said though I just always left mine on the canned tune (other than different sized tires) and have never had a problem. So just read the manual and also update the programmer to the newest file from Edge(The newest released file. Not a beta file).
You guys really need to do some testing to see what your truck does on each level. They are all different to some degree. Also, you have to keep in mind that level 2 is a towing tune. It gives most torque at lower rpms and fades fast above 2500 rpms. It should be the only level you use if you tow, and some people like it if most of their driving is around town. I prefer the shift personality of level 3, plus I do a lot of freeway and highway driving. Level 3 pulls all the way up to 90 mph, maybe more. It is best for passing on a two lane highway at 65 mph. I have 33,000 miles on my Edge and most are on level 3, running 93 octane. I discovered that I get about 11% better gas mileage with level 3 on 93 octane, which pays for the difference in cost.
My settings are as follows with the only differnce between level 2 and level 3 is I don't bump the timing if on 87 octane.
Level 3, 93 octane:
Timing: +1
Shift pressure: 1-2= 5250 2-3= 5250 3-4= 4800
Max RPMs: 5650
WOT Fuel: +1.5
Max speed: 110
Normal shift: no change
I adjust for tire size and gears
I have an XLT SuperCrew, 5.4, 3.55 LS, the tires are 265/70/17, 2005 built 11/04. I have a SIDO Flowmater 40, and a drop in K&N (saves money on filters)
2000 rpms is 75 mph, I get 19.2 or so on the highway running 75 to 85.
I get around 17 running around DFW area. I NEVER drive easy or to get mileage. I have lost about 1 mpg with the 10% ethanol.
Hope this helps. BTW, I went to level 3 out of the box, and went back to try level 2.
I tow sleds most weekends so I keep mine on level 2. I use premium fuel so I bump the timing 1. I also adjust the shift firmness since the sloppiness annoys me. I agree with you JIMTEX, the pwer fades after about 2700. I also do a lot of freeway driving and I prefer level 3, performs much better for me, but because I tow often I have been just leaving it in 2.
