I have an 06 PSD, auto trans. I have a 4 inch exhaust from turbo back. It is a straight pipe with no muffler or cat. I have the Hypertech upgrade on the computer. What should I do next to upgrade her performance to next level? Thanks. Ken Bailey
Intake gets alot of mixed reviews until you are going to make over 500 hp and then even the naysayers on the intake would start to considering putting on an intake. 500 isn't going to happen with just a tuner. Tuner with custom tunes and a 4 in. exhaust would be for starters and gauges, don't forget the all important gauges. If your really going to go wild, bigger injectors, turbo etc then your looking at maybe an intake depending on the size of the mentioned two upgrades. Also if you upgrade the injectors you'll have to upgrade the fuel system as well. I would actually do an ITP Regulated Return to up the fuel pressure(and get a gauge to mount in cab to make sure your not taxing the stock pump) even if you don't upgrade the injectors and keep them stock.
An SCT XCal III with custom tunes from either Matt (and crew) at Spartan Diesel Technologies or Eric at Innovative Diesel.

1.) Gauges - They obviously provide zero performance gains, but they will help safeguard the motor & transmission that you are tinkering with.
2.) Sell the Hypertech & get an SCT XCal III.
3.) Exhaust - Again, minimal, if any, performance gains, but it will help lower your EGTs while towing....especially when running custom tunes & towing...or just lead-footing.
4.) Head studs & fire rings - No performance gains, but they will allow you to run custom tunes with more power without worrying about head gaskets.
5.) Upgrade the fuel system with the fuel line crossover mod, a regulated return kit & FASS system.
Beyond that, you should probably be talking to someone like Matt (that make their living off of the 6.0L) about your future upgrade progression...but I believe that the conversation would include things like injectors, a turbo, intercooler, and maybe even some form of injection (water/meth, propane, etc.). It all depends on how deep your pockets are and how much performance you really want.

Unless he is going to go all out, I don't think the fire rings are really necessary. I'm running bigger injectors and planning on a bigger turbo in March and from Matt and I talked about, just using the stock Ford gasket(although when you do the studs, you need to get a new one even if the old one doesn't have any problems, just for piece of mind) with studs is more the sufficient unless I was going to do some serious engine rebuild.
