Hello everyone,
I'm just starting the build up on my 89 FSB and I'm curious if anyone has had any problems with their BW 1356 transfercase. From what I have read they have only one real inherant flaw, which would be the pump-stop area of the case allowing the oil pump housing to begin to spin freely, instead of being held stationary, as it should be. I'm going to be running 35" tires with 6" of lift, possible more depending on any rubbing issues.
Before you all respond with the upgrade choices, please understand that this is going to be a budget build. I'm not rich, and I'm not in an area where we have u-pull it yards. I just want to know if anyone has anything bad to say about the 1356 itself.
Thank you all. I appreciate your input.
The pump problem is the only real major issue. Prettyy much any other problems you would find would be wear and tear issues or you breaking it from being too hard on it. For what you have the 1356 will do fine. If you feel you need something stronger the NP205 is the strongest t-case in stock form.
i killed a 1356 in my 88 due to too much power, and 100,000 miles of severe abuse over 15 years.
but i also replaced it with a 1356, cause if it lasted 15 years with what i put it through with the 5 speed, it will last forever with the automatic trans.
