I was always a proponent of putting ALL new drivers on motorcycles the 1st 90 days of their license.....
Those that survive WILL be defensive drivers
Always thought that was a good idea. I think it should be more like a year though.
If the whining hybrid owners really cared then they'd find a friend and ride to work in the HOV lane.
If I don't have to drop the kiddo off at daycare in the morning I'll take the bike to work. It saves money on fuel and gets me to work quicker. I'm willing to sweat a little in the summer or get a bit chilly in the winter to enjoy my commute a bit more. A bonus is that I'm causing less pollution, so my X evens things out.
Oh, and half of the drivers on the road are below the average intelligence of the driving population (hybrid or otherwise). Scarey stuff.
You put an idiot in a X or a motorcycle they are going to be a problem on the road. Only responsible people would gain anything from running a motorcycle. All you have to do is look around at the stupid people on bikes running between cars in traffic! Talk about a death wish! I have nothing against motorcycles. I had one in college, but to think you could put a kid on a bike for a while and that would make him a better driver is laughable IMHO! You want to teach him/her something teach them how to drive a big truck. Most truck drivers are more aware of what is around there vehicle than any car or bike on the road. And that is even when they are half awake.

Have to respectfully disagree with that. I started on a bike on the street at 15. One of the things that was pounded into my thick skull from the beginning is that other people don't see you.
If you spend your first two years on a motorcycle looking out for your behind (and the rest of your life split between 2 wheels and 4) habits tend to form. I'm much more aware of my surroundings due to the bike.
Most drivers start in a box, isolated from the rest of the world. No need to be aware.
More food for thought - 95% of the accidents are caused by one of the involved parties DWHUA. The other 5% is actually something beyond a driver's control. Okay, so I made the percentages up, but they're not that far off.
