My wife and I have 4 kids and the mini van is just not big enough. You can't even buy a full size station wagon that holds enough people. The excursion holds all 6 of us, our rotty and luggage and gets 20~mpg on the highway. I don't give a s*&t what other people think. I like the safety, comfort and room the ex gives my family. I myseof drive an f350 crew 2wd longbed for an every day driver , which I use for myself and work, and we all pile in it and can fill the back with crap and tow whatever we need to if we don't want to use the big x.
Hey guys, I usually just read these. I pick up a lot of great solutions (yesterday, after 3 years, I finally got my security entry "code" for the locks thanks to a thread here.
Anyway, I've got an '01 Ex w/ the 6.8. I love it. I tow my 24' boat all over the Northeast and I can throw 4x8 plywood in the back for work, so I NEED this thing.
I drive 1 mile to work and average about 8 to 9 GALLONS per week. What about the folks who drive 50 to 70 miles each way to work every day in their "Economy" cars, burning 30 to 40+ gallons per week?
Then they point the finger at us. (My next comment wouldn't be appropriate so I'll keep it to myself)

Thanks for a great site!
Me too, I only drive .4 round trip, plus school activities, so I don't use nearly as much as the 50 mile a day commuters.
I can tow my 20' boat anywhere and bring the entire clan with gear.
Some very funny comments - I have heard them also for years as a driver of "big" cars and trucks. It still makes me wonder why some people think they have the right to berate others for what they drive. I have a 92 F-250 as my "work" truck, when people get in my face about it I ask them to get their 92 Honda and we will compare vehicles lol. As a survivor of several rear end collisions I truly appreciate a solid vehicle. In 1999 I was rear ended very hard in my Ranger. Had I been driving a civic or something in that size range I doubt if I would be here today ! For the record that ranger was bought from salvage - rebuilt and is still going - not bad for a 1989 ! Is that the kind of green they are talking about ?
Okay I have just had my OMG for the day. Some people just never get it.
I bought my Ex, I paid for my ex, I pay for repairs (which okay has been more than my 59 p/u in its lifetime) I pay for the fuel I use and even with horse trailer fully loaded i get some sweet mileage. I always wonder why anyone would **** me off at the fuel pump...im 6' tall drive an ex don't really like a whole lot of people and i have an attitude.
Great article, sexy pic and keep nailing the tree huggers..they need it
Here's a true story I just posted over there. I bet the tree huggers can't debate it in any shape fashion or form.
True story....
March 22, 2009 - 3:54pm
Culpeper, Virginia -- Four people are dead after a head-on-crash in Culpeper County Sunday.
A man driving a Chevy Tahoe was traveling in the wrong lane on Route 3 east of Culpeper, when he hit a Toyota Corolla around 3 a.m.
The driver of the Tahoe was taken to a local hospital.
Four passengers inside the Corolla were killed in the accident. Only one passenger in the Corolla survived the crash and he was taken to the hospital. His condition has not been released at press time.
Virginia State Police tell WTOP that alcohol may have played a role in the accident for both drivers.

Now replace Toyota Corolla with the word Excursion:

you folks who THINK you are "safe" in the EX are not being fair to either yourselves or your passengers. You are only as "safe" as the person in the OTHER vehicle who is driving drunk and / or their head so far up where the sun dosn't shine, they WILL run into you if given the chance.
I recommend to all my non motor-cycle driving friends you start THINKING like us motor-cycle drivers. Meaning, you KNOW that somewhere, sometime, someone with something dangerous to you and/or bigger and heavier than what you are driving, is going to try and get you. The "trick" is very simple = DEFENSIVE DRIVING !
That means approach EVERY interestion as if you were deliberatlely going to "run" a red light. That means "clearing" everything you are approaching at a speed that you can stop before some half-wit "asassain" gets you in his or her "sights".
Sure - if I could CHOOSE my next accident, I'd prefer to be in my EX and take a kid on a skate-board head on. But suppose the idiot speeding thru a "blind" intersection wants to "T" BONE you in your driver's door ? You guys with the "lifts" - you like sitting way up there ? GOOD - be MORE observant, because as quick to "roll over" as the average STOCK suv is, your "LIFT" kits are making your EX that much more prone to a roll-over. There are plenty of "sites" around where you can see what happens to a FORD product SUV when they are "rolled" at high speed, or after an extreme speed "T" bone.
Bottom line - THINK DEFENSIVE DRIVING. DONT ever think you are "safe" driving around.
