I am not sure but some trucks may have been cat exempt. I know my buddies 02 f350 dually w/ 7.3 has no cat but I am not sure on the 6.0. would the 7.3 test pipe fit.....hmmmm not sure
good to know , but does not that Cat reduce the crap these engines pump into the air we breath. I know Borla for one makes a cat back system that breaths freely and should produce the same M.P.G. increase you saw by removing the factory system. If you get smoggged they will check to see if you have cats present and could be fined for removing federally required equiptment.
ok most states do require a cat but the beauty of this setup is that you van reinstall the cat prior to emissions testing in about 10-15 mins and reremove it after. If they even check. You could even gut the kitty for appearences. Yes it traps some of the soot but heres the ?, if my truck gets less fuel mileage and I need to burn more diesel to work my truck am I saving me any $$$ or the world anything. catch 22. Besides the diesels today with the turbos are much cleaner than they ever were in the past .
